PuppetLight Posted May 6, 2014 Share Posted May 6, 2014 I recently used a dimmer pack through the mains and it worked for he entire show length, plus continuous days of rehearsal, all of a sudden it blew the socket, any ideas as to what, or was it just an overload? greenalien Posted May 6, 2014 Share Posted May 6, 2014 What was connected to the dimmer pack - i.e. how many lamps, and what wattage? Although it's definitely not recommended practice, it's possible to connect up a greater total load to a dimmer pack than the mains can supply - it will work fine as long as only some of the lights are being used - eventually, you will find out it's wrong the hard way, when someone puts all the lights on full! :( A dimmer pack can also blow fuses or trip out if a lamp fails short-circuit.
