gregog
Hi All,The battery has died on the CPU inside of my Strand Palette VL. I opened the CPU and it seems to be held in place by a small bracket - I've given it a little wiggle but it doesn't seem like it wants to move. Does anybody know how I can remove this battery? Didn't want to force it in case I broke anything, but it almost seems as if its been glued into place!! Any help is definitely appreciated. Many thanks in advance,Gregog
mpeters86
Gregog How old is your Palette VL? Do yo know if it is running XP or Vista? Let me know, thanks. Matthew Peters, Strand Tech Support Specialist Matthew.peters@philips.com
gregog
Hi there, Thanks for getting back in touch. I'd estimate that its about 4 years old and is running XP.
mpeters86
You should be able to pull back the metal tab and then pull out the battery. I have listed a link below to a picture of my Palette VL processor. If your battery socket looks different then the picture, let me know, thanks. gregog
Hi Matthew,Thanks for this. I have taken a photo of the battery for you. I have tried lifting the tab in order to remove the battery, but it appears to be stuck onto the battery and does not come away easily. I don't want to damage or break the connection, so I have stopped pulling/ trying to lift it. Is it possibly glued (or something) on to the top of the battery? The corner of the clip is now slightly bent - which shows testemant to it not wanting to come off easily!! Any help much appreciate,Gregog Image linky...https://www.hightail.com/download/OGhmNnFLbEp5UkY4SjhUQw
Brian
I have tried lifting the tab in order to remove the battery...That doesn't look like a battery holder; more like the welded-on connection of a coin cell which is going to need a soldering iron to change. Google 'tagged cr2032'.
Kazeja
Agree. I've come across these welded CR2032s in the Strand SN10X nodes. At least in those, you could actually fit a CR2032 holder to aid future replacemnts once the welded one is removed. With the palette processor it looks to be a bit tighter for space but may be possible. K
gregog
Would you just advise taking a soldering iron to it then and try and release the battery that way? I wouldn't have thought that it would have been soldered to be honest - seems a bit pointless in this case!! Thanks for your help though, guys! Much appreciated. Brian
The (bent) tag shown in your photo is welded to the battery as is the corresponding one on the bottom. You will need to unsolder the battery from the PCB.
mpeters86
Brian is correct, what you have is a solder on battery and that will need to be unsolder to be replace. Now I listed below the part number and a link to Mousers website for a replacement battery. I have been told that is an exact replacement. If you have any other questions let me know, thanks. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/FDK-Batteries/CR2032-FT1/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtEV04R3uo8FvJWkLe8Eh6CbsijAvYngzc%3d Part number is 639-CR2032FT1 Matthew Peters, Strand Tech Support Specialist Matthew.peters@philips.com

Tom Baldwin
Mouser do ship to the UK, although there is a small order charge, and they may have a minimum order. My last order with them was for just over £50, and had free shipping. They seem happy to do credit card sales to the public. As they typically list manufacturer part numbers, you could try doing a web search for a more local supplier - or even eBay! Most of Farnell's range seems to be on there at about 3x catalogue price!
