dickiefunk
Hi,I'm considering getting a pair of budget drum overheads for live use. Ideally I would like to spend £100 for a pair. What would you recommend?
GaryNattrass
PaulEars does a cracking mic called the EM1 @ £40 he also has small diaphragm condensors and even a cardioid/omni studio mic that is still around £50!
astrojgmoore
I've had some really good results from Behringer C2s and some of the Thomann's t.bone range before now, sound as crisp as the AKG Perceptions in my reconing, without A/Bing having said that! Oldradiohand
The C2s will do a reasonable job but any decent condenser mic should work. You need something with a reasonably crisp sound but have a good listen for clipping, you might need to use the 10db pads on the Behringers if they're put in a bit close. cedd
I'll second the suggestion of PaulEars' mics. I bought a pair of small diaphragm condensers from him and they're doing the job just fine. He's also got some demo audio files up there which are nice to listen to before buying. Customer service (as expected) was second to none. http://www.limelight.org.uk/products1.html I bought the FX-510's in the end.

djsheehan
For budget applications I've always had a few RV4's which are the small diaphragm condensers from Red 5 Audio's drum mic range. Also been really impressed and would recommend a look. http://www.red5audio.com/acatalog/Condenser_Mics.html
GaryNattrass
The TAKSTAR CM-60 is my current overhead's choice but I think they are hard to get now, they are less than £30 and have a gold diaphragm.
