Yorkie
I find myself specifying a custom built cabinet, and having acquired some Penn R0863 Rack Strip to give to the cabinetmakers I'm struggling to decide on the precise width of the cabinet. I take it that 19" is the clear width the front panel requires? Various rack cases I have use different sorts of strips so the box widths that the strips are fitted to are different by up to 6 mm (where wider aluminium strip is used) Does anyone here have a given box width they use for the R0863 (1.5mm steel) strip? paulears
The spec is fixed, so I've always gone by these measurements - in particular, the face to face distance - which at 486mm has always worked for no matter what rack strip I have used. 19 INCH RACK EQUIPMENT DIMENSIONAL DATAas specified by BS5954 (1980) and IEC 297 (1975)Rack opening width: 450mmBetween fixing centre: 465mmBetween rack outer edge faces: 486mmRecommended equipment front panel width: 483mm (19 inches)Recommended equipment body width: 449mm (maximum)1U incremental height: 44.45mm (1.75 inches)
Yorkie
Brilliant. Thanks Paul, I realised just that the fixing centre distance was what really mattered.
