PeterT
We need to get some chinagraph pencils in for gel marking etc. Are these available from CPC? (as our preferred supplier) or is there something out there that will do the job just as well for a similar low cost? I've had a search on the website and a look in the catalogue but so far nothing is jumping out at me. Cheers Peter
Just Some Bloke
To the best of my knowledge they don't do them (certainly I've never been able to find any) and there's an awful lot of stationery companies that don't do them either (including some that used to!). I got my last lot from Stage Electrics as I drew a blank everywhere else.
p.k.roberts
Canford Audio still stock them ... http://www.canford.co.uk/Search?q=chinagraph+pencils E2A - you could also try the search term 'wax pencil'

PJG
I often get them from ebay
gyro_gearloose
Wouldn't you be better off using a sharpie? You can get them from just about everywhere, and the ink tends to stay on the gel far longer than a chinagraph will.
mark_s
Have you ever tried reading Sharpie on a cut of L181 in a dimly lit area of backstage?
gyro_gearloose
Yes. I just put my maglite behind the gel. Problem solved :)
Bobbsy
For the relatively small number of Chinagraphs I'd use, a quick stop at the local stationers or art shop and hand in the receipt usually does. Somewhere in the bottom of my tool kit I have the black and white Chinagraphs I bought about 10 years ago--and they're still only about half used. andy_s
Bob - Surely this is largely due to the demise of magnetic tape, rather than a longevity inherent in the Chinagraph?
the kid
I don't know if they still do them but a few years back lee made some promo yellow chinagraphs that were "dispensers" you twisted to push out the "lead" I have a few floating about somewhere.
