gordontech
out of the box I know. I need some low budget temporary DMX cable. Manual Labour isnt a problem (spare minions), chucking a 110ohm resistor on 3 pins would do the same thing wouldnt it?

apexsoundandlighting
+1 for cat5 cable, seems to have worked so far for me, got about 8 gigs out of it before it broke, dunno if it's my dodgy soldering or the core has snapped.

Andrew C
chucking a 110ohm resistor on 3 pins would do the same thing wouldnt it?Sorry, but that is gobbly gook! But more helpfully, yes CAT5 can be used for INSTALLATION cable, not drops to the fittings. The WIKI has a standard pinout ISTR.

dosxuk
By the time you've spent money on buying then putting plugs on any cheaper cable, you could have bought some premade DMX cables from the likes of CPC.

Jivemaster
In this case don't! DMX is simple and user friendly IF you use the right cable and connectors. If you have a piece if the wrong cable or even use dubious connectors the DMX MAY go wrong, and usually it is intelligent enough to pick the critical moment to burp. Cat5 is perfect for installed runs of DMX and sometimes IT cable pullers will discard short lengths even in the 50M range. The cable is unsuited for flexible use. c.cam108
http://www.cld-dist.co.uk/shop/product-info.php?category=&subcategory=&id=CADIGI01 26p a metre. Not overly costly. It's more installation cable, and I wouldn't really trust it anywhere that could be considered a tough environment, but I've got a couple of leads made from it that haven't broken yet, and it's pretty flexible.
