Identify Mac 500 vs Mac 500 E

Hi,

I've recently bought two Mac 500's which I am rigging this afternoon.

My only problem is, I don't know whether they are 500 or 500 E - the difference being 6.7 Kg each.

The lighting bar in the current hall (being replaced this summer) is 80 Kg max, so it limits how many of my other lights I can hang at the same time.

Any ideas? (I've just rung Martin's service dept but either nobody is answering phone or its engaged - I don't know foreign ring tones)

Ring Martins UK product specialist Chris Hale. Number available from the UK website.

I know there were two different versions of the 500 as you have found. One had 2 colour wheels the other had 1 colour wheel to get around a patent held in American by VariLite I think... It's also possible one has an electronic ballast and the other magnetic. A magnetic ballast would explain a weight difference.

There may be other differences but im not sure. Thanks.

The differnece between the 500 and the 500E is the 500 has a magnetic ballast and the 500E has an electronic ballast.

You can see which one you got by either taking off the base cover and seeing if the ballast is magnetic or electronic or if you look at the serial number on the bottom of the fixture it will say MAC 500 or MAC 500E. Also the the 500E will have 2 base fans while the 500 only has 1 base fan which you can easily see thru the grills in the base.

Thanks for all the replies.

Unfortunately one of the serial number plates is missing (!) but I've got a photo of the other which I'll ring Martin with tomorrow.

The Scissor lift is going back first thing so I won't have chance to take covers off or look through grills.

On a positive note, I've just found the demo sequences in the onboard menu and discovered the units will do far more than I even knew about!

Well even if one label plate is missing, you know what one of the units it, just compare it to the other one, weight wise - a 6kg difference should be easy to spot :)

Aye, I know - they're definitely the same units. :-)

They're from AC-ET's bargain basement, which I believe has all come from HSL's takeover/buyout of another hire company. My colleagues hubby works for HSL so he put me onto them in the first place.
