NickLee
This: http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?hl=en&lr...aci.on.ca#link1 may be of interest - it's a thread in the RATS newsgroup on Pepper's Ghost and a biog of a magician is peripherally mentioned. Brian
'The True History of Peppers Ghost' ISBN 0 9523941 7 0 is a facsimile of John Henry Pepper's description. also... 'Magic, Stage Illusions, Special Effects and Trick Photography' by Albert A Hopkins publisher Dover Books ISBN 0 486 26561 7 is a reprint of an 1898 book. The last one is listed on Amazon. I think I got my copy of the first one from Book Bazaar, the specialist Theatrical book dealer, 020 7352 6810 Brian

Peter Tovey
Hope you didn't pay too much for the second, it's available new from the ABTT for £20 (or is that where you got it?). Quite interesting though.
robloxley
I've got a copy of 'British Theatrical Patents 1801-1900' which is quite interesting to flick through and that's all very well, but there's very little explanation as to how most of the things illustrated worked, let alone how you would go about building them. There's probably better things to spend £20 on! (imho, ymmv)
Brian
If anyone is looking for... 'Magic, Stage Illusions, Special Effects and Trick Photography' by Albert A Hopkins publisher Dover Books ISBN 0 486 26561 7, a reprint of an 1898 book. amazon have it filed under 'Magic' as a title and 'Hopkins' as the author.
