Bazz339
How are Le Maitre flash pods triggered? Obviously electrically, but what happens inside the bit that goes whoosh, bang or whatever? In a fired base there looks to be a spring or something accross the two terminals.
p.k.roberts
Across the terminal is a pyrotechnic igniter; which in essence is a short piece of resistance wire which has been dipped in compounds that will ignite when current is passed through the wire and thus heating it. The small spark generated is enough to ignite the materials that then go bang, whoosh or whatever. A quick google turned this up ... http://www.pyromark.com/pyrotechnics.html

bigclive
At an electrical level they are current operated devices, and require in the region of one Amp of current to fire reliably. This can be achieved as simply as applying a battery across the terminals via wires from a safe distance. A fresh alkaline 9V PP3 battery will fire a pod.
