benweblight
Opera by any chance? I've seen large opera productions on this kind of scale performed over water before (possibly the same company, but I can't remember the name).
DrummerJonny
On a similar theme, I'm figuring I'm going to be visiting Bristol some time this summer to see Treasure Island. The stage is a replica pirate ship built outside the Old Vic. http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/SHIP-AHOY/story-11262063-detail/story.html

GridGirl
The pic is Bregenz's Un Ballo in Maschera from a few years ago...they've done some amazing stuff. They're preparing for the upcoming one (Andrea Chenier) now - the link to their webcam is on my bookmarks list! We're doing something very similar here in Sydney next year - La Traviata with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as a backdrop should be pretty spectacular. 32m x 24m stage, and despite what the website says the platform won't be floating but will sit on piles which are driven into the harbour bed; the set is on a rake and there will be dressing rooms and a sound studio (where the orchestra goes) underneath the rake. It's a fairly massive undertaking but one which has got everyone rather excited! The nine-metre chandelier will be a sight to behold...
