andyparcans Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 hi, I am looking to mount a pair of acl bars ontop of a static lighting grid using a pair of double hook clamps per acl, is the a max weight that can be used or is this not best practice. there is no room below as other fixtures and in place. alt I was thinking using 2 fixed half couplers, but that is more expensive?? any thoughts welcome.
GridGirl Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I don't think I'd be using double hook-clamps to overrig an ACL bar - I'd be using RA or swivel clamps depending on how it needed to be rigged.
Brian Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 A picture's worth a thousand words... ...from the Doughty catalogue.
WiLL Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Absolutely, 'outrigging' isn't considered best practice even with lanterns, let alone another bar. Would definately consider suitable clamps.
andyparcans Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 thanks for all info, will use fixed couplers to mount the acl, but I have been in venues where it has been done with double hook clamps, but I was concearned that this did not look right...and if it looks wrong it usually is. cheers
LXbydesign Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Your quite right to ask though. Yes, use couplers. I do admit over-hanging lamps on bars, but only birdies!!
Seano Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 ... but I have been in venues where it has been done with double hook clamps, but I was concearned that this did not look right... Your profile says you manage a company which, according to the website has a team including "specialists in all aspects of the PA, Sound and Lighting process therefore we know what it takes to make informed decisions quickly and expertly". It also says (quoting again): "Our industry knowledge is second to none". Er..Sorry. The phone rang and I've completely forgotten what I was going to say now.Carry on..
WiLL Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Your quite right to ask though. Yes, use couplers. I do admit over-hanging lamps on bars, but only birdies!! Well admittedly lanterns which are lighter than the the g-hooks themselves probably don't count :(
