Robe Colourspot 250AT Vs Mac500's

Hi all,

I have a limited budget to hire some movers for a forthcoming school production of Forbidden Planet. Am considering Mac500’s or Robe Colourspot 250AT’s. Existing LX include Selecon 650W fresnels, profiles, 300W PAR56’s & some LED PAR’s. Will run the show from Daslight, MagicQ or another PC solution. Does anyone have opinions re the above choice of mover. By the way the going rate is £50/week per lump..

Cheers

Roy

Another vote for the Robe 250ATs, very good optics and bright compared to the old mac 500s'.

It's hard to find good condition, fully working mac 500s these days and in my experience of using 500s they seem to have a good few problems with the older ones!

According to each manufacturers published figures, the Robe 250 Spot AT has a total light output of between 2940 lumen and 3440 lumen depending on the lens fitted. The Mac 500 however has a total light output of 9000 lumen with standard lens fitted. (Incidently the Mac 250 Krypton has a total lumen output specified at 5000 lumen.)

It must be colour temperature or something because on a side by side shoot out the 250 is brighter than the old 575,

A good clean Mac 500, with a good young lamp, is brighter than a Mac 250. Its amazing the difference these two factors (cleanliness and lamp age) make to the performance of a moving light.

Well that last remark is irrelevent as you can swop out the gobos on either model to suit anyway.

The MAC500 (young, clean or old) is still slower than the Robe though and taking into account the time that the 500 has been around, with newer, faster and better optics- other smaller fixtures like the Entours for example, win hands down for me in terms of performance and ease of use (transporting, lifting etc etc)
