roryfm
Hi all,Had a request from a director for a split gauze to be used in an upcoming show - i.e. a gauze that opens from CS. I have to say I have never come across one, and feel that being split means the effect of the bleed through won't work as well as if it were one taut piece, yet he is adamant he has used one before, so it is now up to me to source one. We're looking for approx 12m wide with 6.5m drop to be fitted to a tab track, and have no fly tower (hence the tab track) Basically I'm looking for a) confirmation these exist, and aren't a mega-specialist itemb) any ideas where I can hire one (we're in Oxfordshire) - he's tried Acre Jean without luck (which adds to my opinion that they aren't stock items) and endless googleing is not throwing up any decent results Thanks in advanceRoryfm

boatman
I imagine a split gauze is going to look a little odd with a double hem down the middle, however single gauzes aren't all that expensive to buy and you might be able to get them with a selvedge down each side so there's no hem. We recently bought a 9m wide by 4.2m high gauze for just over £300 from J & C Joel. Glynis Jones is the rep for your area (01422 317 745) and was extremely helpful and knowledgable. I'm sure they'll be able to fix you up with something.

DavidLee
We used a split gauze on an ordinary tab track for a transformation on a village hall stage a couple of years ago. I had confidently predicted that it would look awful but the designer insisted and I was amazed how well it worked. However you would be better off using a full width gauze and modifying the tab track to give a single run so that you can sweep the cloth off to one side. We've done that several times in the Forum Theatre in Malvern, where there is no flying height. David
