Folding Mount for TFT Monitors

OGGY

Recommended Posts

Afternoon,

Currently "designing" a flightcase to house various bits and pieces as part of that I want to mount two TFT monitors into the case, to reduce the overall size I want the monitors to simply fold down flat during transportation.

My current solution is to mount them to a board and have that hinged to allow them to fold down. The disadvantage is that it doesn't allow any positional adjustment of the monitors when in use.

All the off the shelf brackets I have found are designed for domestic use and so aren't articulated in the right way for my purpose.

Just wondering if anybody had come up with a better solution or knew of any off the shelf brackets that would do the job?

For info the monitors accept the VESA100 mounting hardware.

Thanks

Mark

I've got two of these in my racks:

http://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/productpics/lcdrack4.jpg

From Flightcase Warehouse

They've both work perfectly well, being actioned (i.e. being used) fairly often for the past year an a bit now, so seem to be pretty reliable..

Haven't had a look at the links provided by other members as I'm in a rush, so don't know how this things price compares to the rest. As the description says, your limited to 15" screens. Tried a narrow edge 17" (current Dell tft screen range), just too big.

Thanks for the quick responses.

What I should have made clear is that the monitors will be located alongside eachother, the flightcase will look something like a mixer case when all closed up. Sorry about that.

The arm on the sliding tray in the items available from Flightcase Warehouse and CPC is just the thing I was hoping to get hold of. I'd rather not have to pay for the tray and rackmount stuff if I don't have to. Probably pushing my luck but has anyone seem just the arm assembly for sale anywhere?

I've e-mailed Adam Hall who I believe are the distributor of these items to see if the arm is available but I think that might be a bit of a long shot.

Thanks again for the help.

Cheers

Mark

The only other thought I've had, is to go with your current hinged board arrangement, but mount them using standard monitor wall mounts.

However it would make the thickness between the screen and 'top' of the case rather thick, which may be a problem.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick on what you are wanting ...
Completely the other end. Maybe not even the same stick! :** laughs out loud **:

Put simply, does your suggestion look anything remotely like what myself and others have posted?

Or perhaps its just all of us who are wrong

Hi, is this the type of arm you are looking for http://www.techstore.co.uk/browse.php?a=p&...rodLineID=59565

I found that one by typing "tft monitor arm" into google.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick on what you are wanting ...

Alex.

Thanks for trying to help but this is the sort of thing I'd already found, it doesn't allow me to fold the monitor flat which is the critical bit for me.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

You mean like this?

Side view folded..

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s23/preeves_album/BR/th_folded_side.jpg

Side view open..

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s23/preeves_album/BR/th_open_side.jpg

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s23/preeves_album/BR/th_open.jpg

The key is the dual hinge design.

Now for the bad news...

They are 15" LG Touchscreens (L1510BF) and I never did manage to find a source of stands that were similiar, so I ended up buying the LG ones (that and the touchscreen type and driver support)...

More bad news is that these are not available in the UK, and so I had 4 of them shipped from Australia...

(they were also available in 17" model)

Hyundai also had a model with the dual hinge, which looks like it has since been updated as it did not meet my requirements at the time (I got my LG's over a year ago now) ..

Hyundai G70TR

Sadly both of these options are rather expensive as you imply you already have the monitors, and are simply looking for the stands..

(here is my original post when I was looking if it helps any..)

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Paul

Hi Mark,

You mean like this?

<snip>

Hi Paul,

That's exactly it! Looking at the Adam Hall product that has been shown in the links to CPC and Flightcase Warehouse looks to have a similar dual hinge arrangement. If I have to I might just get two of those and unbolt the supporting arms from the rack mounting stuff. I'm sure I can find a use for the bits left over!

Cheers and thanks for taking the time to post the pics.

What about something like this:

Obviously it depends if it locks in the open position as well as in the closed, but from a quick Google some in America look like they are design for flip up or flip down.

How big exactly can they be and still fit them on? I have some 17" sony monitors which are 16.5cm wide and 13.5cm high - narrow bezel with speakers underneath. It looks like it might fit from the picture, but is the problem with the height rather than the width?
