adamcoppard
but we did have a hazer. We are hiring one in (not for the lights, for another reason, but that's going to create a lot of questions in itself, that I shall ask in Effects, when theres a more solid idea in everyone's mind. And, thanks for the input.
david.elsbury
*snip* even so, 24 ch in a school is plenty. With respect, such a sweeping statement is rather naive to make. I really think that it depends on the school in question. My school hall wasnt a theatre by any standards, but it wast anyones garden shed either! We had 8 pulsar fresnels, 2 quartet fs. 2 minuette profiles, 2 9cell strand s-battens and a few patt 137s. My point here, and in my last post, is that you don't need to go over the top and waste school money on fancy gear every year, it may be nice to play with some toys but not necessary. Maybe 24 channels was enough in your school but you implied every school would find 24 channels sufficient. My old scool had 60 ways of dimming available back in the early 80s with a larger stock of equipment than your list but for the size of the performance space and the productions we staged this was by no means excessive. The Gaffa
When I was at School back in the late '70's we had 60 channels plus more lights than we knew what to do with, and when I was at college we had 72 channels to play with. I've designed shows with 12 dimmers in a studio, 24 dimmers in a 70 seat theatre, and this year I'm designing our school play with 72 dimmers (I'm using 60 odd) and a £1000 hire budget (which funnily enough is being spent mainly on scrollers and a couple of moving profiles). Why not aim big?
mark_s
The lighting can be great - 'as good as it possibly can be' - without wasting money on fancy toys. Post edited because I originally thought this was a different topic B-)
adamcoppard
Thanks for all the help. Just found out (would have been helpful if I knew before I started specing up everything), that none of the plays that any of this was far are going to be performed. We have completely changed the play, meaning, that, the tech is now completely different (heck, the whole geographical (as in physical) space of the play has changed). Thanks for all the help, and continue to add your foybles and I've learnt much from this, but, it probably now won't be used for some time!
