frazer
Hello, I have a Christie Digital LX50 with a lens that is in a sorry state. It has been in club which runs a DF50 (despite our pleading not to) and therefore the inside of the lens has become gunked up with oily residue. I have cleaned the rest of the projector, no problem, but have never taken a lens apart so am not sure what to expect. Is the anything I need to watch out for, or should I avoid doing this all together and buy a new lens?
Jivemaster
Most lenses need special tools to open them, and even more special tools to re-assemble them. I suspect that your judgement must be value driven. How much a new lens vs how much a professional repair. Most large towns will have a camera repairer or ten, one of those will know a lens repair person.
MrBoomal
Can't really speak for projector lenses, but, if you take a camera lens apart it has to be reset on a machine, a slight offset of a millimetre will completely ruin the focus. I would never take a set lens apart.
