rossmck
@CharlieH - Love your WWRY shots - first time I've seen it done without the upstage video projection - very effective :)
LXbydesign
Wow. Whats the budget for all that then ? Seemed to be a couple of days there at the beginning of not much happening but when it finally got to the truss being rigged then it all took off! End picture was good :)
CharlieH
@rossmckThanks very much :) To be honest, I would have rathered the rear projection! The director wasn't keen on the idea however. @lxbydesignThe budget wasn't bad, but not as big as you'd think. The truss was donated by a parent, and I got a very good discount on the hire gear :) Yes, the first day was us clearing the mountain of sh!t from the wings, then there was issues with H&S and who was allowed to rig the truss (why this wasn't picked up earlier I have no idea, as senior management had a copy of my schedule and plans a week before we were due to carry them out!), which put my schedule completely out hence the wasted days :)
Gareth A
A week. . . no wonder! Even professional touring shows "Usually" have to give their information to the venues weeks in advance. ! One northern venue requires all risk assessments for the show, schedules and show call and especially paperwork relating to pyro 4 weeks in advance! If you don't then they contractually have the right to refuse any pyro or naked flame effects also.

jonathan859
Ok so it's a video shoot rather than a production but it was very much reliant on the lighting and shot in our school hall so I reckon it fits this thread! This is from my A level Moving Image Arts coursework. The scene is a monologue made by the main character. I used one fresnel hung in the rig and two par cans on t-bar stands. The second picture shows the setup with the house lights on.
Munro
These are from my AS Drama and Theatre Studies exam. (They were taken during two different rehearsals so have some minor imperfections.) http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2813/9028795236_53dd015d86_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5466/9028795456_3b8ce14337_b.jpghttp://farm3.staticflickr.com/2817/9028795678_8abf921226_b.jpg
mark_s
A very nice use of sidelight there Joe, you've clearly given a lot of thought to the effect you want to achieve on an artistic level rather than deciding which toys you want to play with and allowing the design to be equipment-led. The first photo in particular reminds me a bit of William Forsythe's 'Artifacts' (which is well worth a watch by anyone who wants a brilliant example of how important lighting can be to the perception of a performance piece, and a masterclass in lighting dance). smalljoshua
They are indeed very nice pics Joe, is that 201 in the side? (Have you tried the newer L501 CTC? I find it's just a bit nicer on skin tones) Josh
Munro
Fixture wise it's strictly generic... There are a few LED floods in the rig but they were purely for a paparazzi effect (camera flashes). I tried 201 and didn't feel it was strong enough so I used two pieces of 202 which creates sort of a one and a quarter CT Blue. I've not seen 501 - I'll get a sheet on the next order. Thanks for the positive comments :)
hellarda
I have just finished A levels and am leaving Caterham School in Surrey, but I have done the sound and overlooked the technical aspects of shows over the last 3 years. We have been very privileged with the kit we have been able to hire/be donated for free for the shows. 2010: We Will Rock You. Can't remember exactly what we had but something like 4 Varilite 2500's and a 3000. Plus a huge Mitrix screen for backdrop. http://imageshack.us/a/img15/8292/prg8.jpg I had to mix the whole thing off of a 32 Channel Soundcraft desk with a behringer linked into to it. It was so difficult. All running on a cruddy Carlsbro PA 2011: Fame For this we had 7 Clay Packy Alpha Wash/Spots. We were able to hire a complete PA system aswell. L'Acoustics Kilo/Kiva and SB118's along with APG monitors and I used an M7CL-48ES to mix the show. A massive improvement on the previous year! http://imageshack.us/a/img849/6990/ch5s.jpg 2012: Hairspray Didn't really get any lights in for this, as the teacher who was 'head of tech' wanted to keep the old feel of the show and didn't want any movers. http://imageshack.us/a/img189/9780/qxpd.jpg Hower for sound we again hired in a complete system. L'Acoustics Kilo/Kiva and SB118's again, along with the same APG monitors, but this year due to my exceptionally high channel count (I think I had 68 in total - including 32 radio mics) I used a PM5D along with a DSP5D which theoretically gave me 96 channels. Remembering which console I was controlling on the surface did get quite confusing when working out why I wasn't controlling the right thing! Moderation: Please remember the rules - 3 pics OF THE SHOW!
Aaron-Hill07
Hellarda - Nice photos, would have been nice to have seen more 'production' shots as opposed to kit; but the few production shots you have look good. Did you find yourselves using the intelligent lighting much? There's some good lighting there, which I don't think used intelligents? I sure wish I had access to that sort of kit when I was at school/college!
