Changes To The Blue Room

Recommended Posts

For the past few weeks the admin and moderation team of The Blue Room has been reviewing how the members use the forums and reading back over past suggestions for improvement. Based on member feedback we are pleased to announce the following changes...

1) The creation of a new forum called 'The Office'. This area is intended for non-technical discussions about working backstage. The following are examples of some topics which will be appropriate for this area...

Insurance

Accountancy

Taxation

Working overseas

Coming to work in the UK

Starting out as a freelancer

...needless to say all the topics need to be related to life backstage.

2) The creation of a new forum called 'The <<insert name of poll winner here>> forum'. This area is meant for our younger non-professional members to ask questions about, and to discuss aspect of, productions in a school or college setting. These often present unique problems which don't appear in professional venues and a place dedicated to their discussions is a way of recognising this. We hope that our younger members will make this new forum their own and look forwards to helping them. In return, we ask that any posters to the new area continue to take the trouble to make sure that their posts uphold our rules on spelling and grammar. A well written post is more likely to get people to help you.

By way of a little challenge, we're running a competition to name the new forum. Please see the first post in there for the rules.

3) The Crew Room. An ongoing and often controversial discussion has been about how off-topic posts to The Crew Room can be. This has included posts about computing. We've decided to relax the rules on what is acceptable in The Crew Room. From now on, with the exception of politics and religion, you can now feel free to discuss anything in The Crew Room. However, normal rules about taste, decency, honesty and legality still apply. The Crew Room will continue to be members only and will not be indexed by search engines.

4) Off-Topic replies, especially regarding spelling and grammar. In return for relaxing the rules in some areas we are going to tighten up on how we treat off-topic replies. All posts have a 'Report' button under them. If you have concerns about a post then please use that to let us know about it rather than making an off-topic reply to the post. We will be compiling guides on why we believe spelling and grammar are important as well as other topic to help people along.

In all cases The Blue Room's Terms and Conditions continue to apply.

Over the next few days a number of other important changes will be made. Please keep an eye out for further announcements.
