x-over freq.

xyz

Recommended Posts

I'd say the 'standard' point would usually be between 100hz and 200hz, depending on the application.

(correct me if I'm wrong fellas!)

What xover equipment are you using?

If you are using something like a c180 with presets built in, its pretty much a case of what sounds best for you, and of course, depends on the P.A you are using.

PS...... mods of BR, change the time, I'm getting confused!

Sorry forgot to mention, a full list of your P.A would help with the advice you receive.

I will list a full spec of the system tomorrow, it's a JBL loaded rig but built by an old touring hire company (not sure which one).

Is the c180 the studiomaster xover? is this only 2 way?

I bought a citronic digital loudspeaker managment unit.

What's the loading technique on the 18" and the 2 x 12"?

What's the frequency / power response of the 2" driver?

What's the cutoff frequency of the horn?

What's the horn geometry?

Are the bullets crossed over passively, if so, at what frequency?

I have added some pictures below, as I said before the system is run 3 way then there is an internal crossover on the 2" driver and bullets.

Between 1K6 and 2K

and something around 125 would be reasonable starting points.

My suggestion would be to try those frequencies and play around to hear what sound best with the boxes you have.

Cheers,

Peter

wow, these look heavy xyz, (hence the castors!)

What don't you like about the sound using your citronic digital loudspeaker managment unit?

I would assume that the built in passive filters should sort out the HF, I would say have a play and decide whats nice for you, all cabs sound different to anyone else, and also it depends on the application.

Thanks,

There not as heavy as they look, the tops are heavier than the bins which is undertandable looking at whats in them.

As for the digital controller, I haven't run the system up yet although it was tested when I bought it a few weeks ago I just wanted an idea of x over points to start at so thanks guys.

did they come from somewhere in sheffield by any chance? theres a few places with those cabs about there and the corporation recently sold a load on ebay.

when I've heard them they've certainly done the trick for live music. can be a bit harsh around 1.5-3k though and are not good in small spaces but also in those small spaces they werent time aligned as far as I could see.

I'd reckon xover at something like 130-160 & 1.2k. the 12's that are horn loaded won't play massively low and that comp will meet them quite easily at that point..

also, hi blue room. nice to be on here.

Cross over frequency is only part of the game; the other is power of the individual parts.

For the frequencies given Subs 20% Mids 60% and HIs 20%  (tweeters in hi) from an old Emminence book... But check the recommended RMS power, although with JBL it can be a little difficult to locate this, sometimes they use Peak Watts about 4 times the RMS... Just don't push it on your first gig -and double check your cableing, JBL spares are not cheap.

Look up both the drivers and horns: both limit the useable frequency range.

I run 18"s up to 220-250Hz but then I use 10" and horns.
