Jamtastic3
HI BR,Does anyone know where I can get curved aluminium bars that can be linked to make a 'ring', just like what you'd make with a ring of truss, only with one bar instead of 3.It's for a centrepiece effect (mirrorball in the middle, few scans around the edge kind of idea) Cheers! andy_s
I don't know of anywhere that sells curved ally tubes off the shelf but it's a relatively simple matter to have one rolled by metal frabricators. Most set building companies would be able to point you in the right direction if they can't do it themselve; last time I had it done we went to Clearwater Scenery, they are based in Rochester in Kent. there must be plenty of companies in Scotland who could do this, but it's not my neck of the woods... greenalien
The tubing used in most trussing (e.g. Astralite, Trilite) is 50.8mm dia x 1.63mm wall thickness (= 2" x 16SWG in imperial measurements). Alloy prices have gone sky-high recently but it should be cheaper to buy tubing to this specification, rather than alloy scaffold bar, which has a much thicker wall. Expect to pay around £10 per metre, but prices change daily so it's worth getting lots of quotes. Don't try bending the tubing yourself, it needs specialised equipment, but a local engineering shop should be able to help, as the previous poster said. Steve Cavill
Try Ben @ LiteStructures. 01977659800 or 07971217367 They are always happy to help with things like this. Mention Steve @ KCFX too..

gareth
We've just had a load of curved 48mm bars rolled for a production that's just closed - if you're anywhere near N.Wales or Cheshire and want a local supplier I can find out where we got them from, if you like. Well, not anything. We can bend tubes (and thus make curved trusses). You can go to 'Section benders' in the Yellow Pages, too. Barnfields is one, Angle Ring is another. TomHoward
Bringing an old thread back from the dead, I'm also looking for a curved aluminium tube of around 1.5m / 4ft diameter. It's to make a centre cluster centrepiece. I'll follow up the previous suggestions but just in case anyone had any other suggestions or any going for sale / hire
J Pearce
We had some curved scaff hired for our final presentation at uni, I believe it came from Hawthorn, as 4 sections of a scaff circle.Plenty of hire companies have circle truss centrepieces available for hire too. TomHoward
Thanks guys, but I got a quote from a fabricator for a 3' diameter rolled, welded and cleaned up for £35, so doesn't really seem worth hiring. I'll post details if the transaction goes through and tube turns out alright.
TomHoward
Just to follow this up - here's a photo of the ring we got, fabricated within four days from White Cross Rings in Bradford who came recommended by our local fabricators. Haven't got the invoice yet but I understand it'll be around £35, plus VAT it should still be under £50. Galvanised steel, wasn't sprayed when we got it but I forgot to take a photo before.
