DVI to RCA

Hi Guys!

Quick question as I'm slightly confused!

Looking around eBay and I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DVI-I-MALE-TO-3-X-RC...7QQcmdZViewItem

As far as I knew, DVI can't carry audio (unlike HDMI etc), and a quick search around says the same thing, so why is this cable splitting DVI into 3 x RCA?

Cheers all, apologies if the answer is really obvious and I've missed it!

It is giving analogue component RGB video, i.e. separate red green and blue colour signals. Note also the fact its DVI-I, so will probably be using the VGA portion of the signal. Its the same as the leads to split a VGA to 5 BNC, only this is ignoring the H and V sync.

Peter is right, for example, our product VP-416 http://www.kramerelectronics.co.uk/indexes...asp?name=VP-416 outputs 720p and 1080i on a DVI-I connector in both analogue and digital formats, so you could buy one of these connectors, stick it in our VP-416 and have the analogue outputs.

However, this post raises another interesting point - DVI and audio. It is perfectly possible to pass digital audio through a DVI connector. You embed it into a video stream in the same way that HDMI does. Therefore if you start off with an HDMI signal, you can use adapters to pass the signal through DVI cable.
