venue install

Venue details:

250 cap, 20meter x 12.5meter x low ceiling, 100dB(A) nosie limit measured at FoH (back wall of the space),

music type: rock, metal, punk, hardcore, electronica, ska etc etc...

Project:

Got a small budget to replace the current FoH speakers, they are very old home brew; jbl design boxes (Yuk).

Looking at installing Funktion-One (2) Res1's over (1) or (2) F218's. Does anybody have experience with such a

System? I am very experienced with Res2 up, but have never used / heard the ones; budget is why I am considering them.

Assuming correct power / dsp do you think this system you be adequate for the space and programme material?

If you are looking at the Res-2s might I also suggest having a listen to Turbo's Aspect Wide and the TSW-218. Will be similar money to the Funktion and a good alternative. Have alway had good results with the long throw touring Aspect and this share some components and technologies.

See ftp://ftp.turbosound.com/datasheets/ for tech info. Think they also do a horizontal version which might be ideal for low ceiling in venue if you plan to fly rather than groundstack.

Give Turbo a call and arrange a demo, in fact you could then pop up the road to the Farm (Funktion) as they are only about 12 miles away from each other. Make a day of it and enter UK Speaker Point Source Nirvana - OMMMMMMMM!

hope that helps, sure either will do the job

I have a similar sized room (bit longer), to be honest I don't think a Res 1 system will quite fill that sized space adequetly. They are a very nice cab (what we use for DJ monitors) but it's quite a sizeable room and whilst they'd probably do it quite well, for the moments when you wanted to push it that they might start to struggle. If you were going for Res 2's with F218's I'd also suggest you look at the Res 4S - same price, but more bang for your buck.

To compare the res 2 to the aspect is odd. Yes they have similar components, but on paper the TA500 is a 141dB box, this is more than the Res2. quite a bit more. All depends on your application.

Its fine not to like a box, but if you give us a reason WHY you don't like it then we may be able to help more, ie not suggest boxes similar to it.

Yep you are right they are quite different boxes in that sense. I suggested the TA-500 because I thought we were discussing Res-4s, which subsequently have been suggested.

Apologies for any confusion.

And for the statement " I personally dislike Aspect", is that based on any experience with the cabinets? I try not to criticise/endorse product unless I have used it or someone I trust and respect has. As ever listen with your own ears not someone else's eyes

You were right to suggest the Aspect range they are a suitable alternative to the Res 2's and 4's. The Aspects are also very highly thought of.

Cheers for the back up. I know they would be highly suitable for the job but they are a very different proposition to the Res-2 in reality. Its just I didn't read the initial mail properly and wanted to make that clear.

Any thanks again
