Biskit
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can quote (or even hazard a reasonable guess) at the weight of a single piece of 6'x4' steel deck? This is definately the old steel stuff, not ali-deck or any other modern light-weight alternatives. It has the usual 18mm painted ply wood top. I know it could vary with manufacturer but a good ballpark figure will do fine. The reason I ask is I'm trying to get my employer to condemn a load of this stuff on health and safety grounds and replace it with something more suitable (at present it is stored and has to be erected/dismantled in a confined space with 5' legs, with no mechanical aids). If I can quote how heavy the decks are I'm sure the H&S rep will get involved in our favour... and I can kiss goodbye to my bad back forever! Many thanks, Ben. ianl
8x4 steeldeck is about 70kg so probably 55 to 60kg Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can quote (or even hazard a reasonable guess) at the weight of a single piece of 6'x4' steel deck? Suzette
Agree with ianl - 8'x4' is 70kg .... you coul always phone Steeldeck themselves and ask them - that's how I tend to find out when I know need to know the weight - 020 7833 2031
flypig
Steel deck; 8' x 4' is approx 62kg6' x 4' is approx 46kg (assuming you lift one end to insert the legs) with an 8' x 4' you will be lifting and supporting approx 40kg up to shoulder height. The standard single man lift by baggage handlers at the airport (here in Oz) is a maximum of 30kg. If this procedure were taking place here in Oz, this would be a 3 - 4 man operation. Hope this helps.
