Depending what you are using it for.......we are in the process of buying Shogun - flooring. It's the matting that is used for Judo competitions - no good for performances, but for rehearsals etc it's great ....comes in sections that are 2m x 1m and sucks to the floor.... have spoken to people that say it will last 15 years easy. As long as it is stored properly etc....it's pretty hefty stuff ....about 4 cm thick, but takes all the impact of dance / physical movement so will protect the little darlings and their oh so sensitive joints....... ;)

If you want stuff for performance though.....go with what Bryson says....can't beat Harlequin........

It's in a college so used for performance of dance drama music concert etc, so steeldeck and grand piano's feature heavily!!!! :D at times.

But used for rehearsals, scenic construction rolling scaffold tower over,

and awards evenings exhibitions and occasional incoming parties with a DJ and a buch of lemonade spilling crisp munchinig little darlings in hobnail boots, so would love something that can stand up to the test of all that. ;) :D :D

That's why I'm having such a hard time figuring out what to get

Have to chip in my 2p's worth as well...

Got to go with harlequin, versatile, hardwearing and reasonably priced. Also they have a great range and they'll send you samples that bear an uncanny resemblance to coasters, so even if you don't end up buying any you might as well ask for samples... ;) (not that we exist on a low budget in our place or anything!)

Our floor is temp. installed, and is black on oneside and white on the other, they do other colour combinations as well I think, not sure if something like that would be of use to you though.

ive got a Harlequin Liberty floor as my portable dance floor and it will take the weight of a Grand Piano with ease. combined with a marley it is just SEXY to walk on and the dancers love it.

thier activity floor sounds like the floor for you.

and apart from the nice samples they send out really nice people to install it for you!!!!!!

Yes would thoroughly agree with that. Has anyone else met Ray their senior guy? He's been everywhere in the world to lay their floors and he's the most unassuming man you'll ever meet. In fact they're all lovely people (and not just 'cos I got a Tshirt off them this time!)

Rosco flooring is another great alternative - Birmingham Royal Ballet and SCottish Dance Theatre have both recently swapped from Harlequin Floors to Rosco. The quality of the flooring is very similiar - check both out for interesting price comparisson!
