owen_mcauley
Any suggestions for a temporary edge marker for steeldeck, so that the wood doesn't get trashed/paint ripped off? Been using white gaffa, oh boy did that make a mess!! Any cheap suggestions for marking edges, such as the front of the stage where guard rails are not in place. Preferably something non-raised as most off the stuff built is quite low and requires the ability to step on and off from another level. Cheers Guys Owen
opman
We use 2" hazard tape plus signs That said, it still didn't stop a girl from a visiting company's publicity department walking into the pit last year Maybe I can piggyback on this thread and raise a question I asked on the ABTT site last year? Does anyone know who supplies/makes/fits orchestra pit nets? :)
Big Dave
Paint a white line on it at the edge......and then paint it black again when you've finished with it! Job done.
Bryson
Maybe I can piggyback on this thread and raise a question I asked on the ABTT site last year? Does anyone know who supplies/makes/fits orchestra pit nets? Slingco, perhaps? And paint seems to be the correct way forward for edge marking. If you want to use a tape, perhaps low-tack masking tape would do the job without trashing the deck?
owen_mcauley
Paint is a wonderful idea, however you haven't seen my production schedules! I've got two hours and a one man, six student crew to rig/focus a concert lx rig from a scaffold tower, build the stage, place instruments, cable up, build a sound system, soundcheck and then die!!!! It'd be dry by the end of the gig tho!!! Owen

owen_mcauley
Camera tape? Call me thicker than the proverbial (most people do!) but I've never heard of it! What properties has it got? Cheers Owen
DanielArkley
Lots of rolls of LX Tape?
James
http://www.thetapeworks.com/images/camera_white.gif It's used extensivly on film shoots - it leaves almost no residue and being coton based you can write on it many times http://www.projector.demon.co.uk/8clapper.jpg eg on the clapper board... also the clapper loader will lable and seal each mag with the stock used, length etc... (can't find a picture of a labled mag at the moment so I will have to show you a nice film camera...) http://www.cameraspro.com/16bl2.jpg
Ellis
Good quality Gaffa has an adhesive that sticks and can be removed without leaving a residue - much of the cheaper stuff is actually more sticky. Camera tape is exactly the same as gaffa (except that it is narrower and usually light coloured) from the same manufacturer. You could try LeMark adhesives at: http://www.gaffatape.com/ Hope this helps Ellis
Matt
heh heh, your lucky mate, its only me and my colleague to build, paint, setup the set, sort out lighting etc..., sound system setup-ing, rigging, directing etc... we usually only have like a whole day to do this in, not very long!!!! THEN WE GET ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION IN THE END SPEECHES AND HANDOUTS, GRRRRRRRRR what would they do without us, the good, clever, *****, amazingly cool tech crew ay? feel free to add your descriptions to the ***** part. right, that said. on our steel deck we have got a small strip of metal about 3mm thick and 20mm wide, and screwed it onto the side, covering up the edges so the wood doesn't flake up and create splinters, and we have painted around the edges with hard wearing floor paint, then put the normal black paint all over the top. stops it from getting too busted up.
