  1. Just to finish this off - went for a couple of these, and we've been very satisfied. They do the job we wanted, and are very affordable. Surprisingly well made, and the controls on the back is a configuration that suits us well. Thanks for all the opinions!

    Budget IEM

Folks - I've tried using search, but can't get it to work at all - I know there have been threads about this in the past, and if anyone wants to link to a past discussion, that's fine. The question is simply this: what lower price IEM earpieces are worth looking at? it's for a guitarist who wants to be able to monitor at lower levels (tinnitus) than the stage wedge, so something with reasonably good isolation would be helpful. Anything under £100, and the lower the better, as long as it is usable. It's probably going to be used with the Behringer P2, fed from a spare Aux on our X32/P16 system.
  3. It's a 7W cool white non-replaceable LED, as far as I can tell from the PDF. If that fits your application, great.
  4. I like the printers that use the TZ tape instead of the EZ tape - I find it much easier to peel the backing off. I've got both handheld and desktop printers, and have bought generic tapes for them, and they seem to be holding up well.
  5. I use NiMH cells in our Shure beltpacks, and they are fine. But you are right about voltage, mostly. Some 9v rechargeables have an extra cell, and are much closer to 9v. We use cells designed for vape machines. Shop carefully! - Ours were described as : "Replacement for 9V Alkaline 8.4V 280mAh rechargeable NiMH PP3 battery Vapex-Tech" and have been fine.
  6. Guys: need a couple of inexpensive powered stage monitors, not hugely demanding application in terms of power, and I have been looking at the HH Electronics VRM-10A Active Stage Monitor. Compact, neat form factor - but has anyone got experience of them? Is there anything else at a similar price point that I ought to be considering? I was looking here, if that's helpful.

    X32 Edit

If anyone still needs it, here's a link to my Dropbox for v3.2. Please don't repost outside this group!
  8. Folks - I did suspect (and was not disappointed) that I would get a load of advice on how to do or not to do the job. I really was only after legislative guidelines. And I did discover that there is very little that specifically applies to places of worship, because of this odd 'public place but not a public place' issue. But huge thanks to Hilary, who pointed me exactly to what I was after, and armed with that information, and some useful confirmation from the insurers, I was able to steer them in a different direction (we're going with long-throw projector). Sometimes it is helpful to be able to show people why a particular course might be more complex. Thanks for all the help!
  9. I have, as I guess everybody does, a large collection of mic clips. And a lot of stands of different sizes. And I find myself wondering about the history of the two different threads. Why has the industry never managed to settle for one unified thread size? Why does someone always manage to screw the thread adapter in very tight and the wrong way round, so you can't ever remove it again? Do you store your clips with the adapter in, or do you superglue the adapters onto the stands? I like the 3/8 thread because it is coarse (16tpi) and thus quick. Why did 5/8 appear, and why is it so much finer? And why do cameras use yet another size? Why is there no metric alternative? I know none of this matters at all, but I am curious.
  10. It's a Baptist Church, which still doesn't quite answer all the technical parts of 'who is the trustee of the building', as Baptist churches have a wide variety of different trusts. Practically speaking, the trustee of the building is the local church itself, though the law doesn't see it quite that way. But you don't want to get into all that detail! And the interior is not listed, which is a whole other can of worms. But no, there is no denominational input into what happens to the interior, although the local church would have to explain itself to the insurers, as correctly mentioned above.
  11. Would the answer be any different if it was a theatre?
  12. Guys - this has been really useful and interesting thus far. But could I nudge the conversation back to the original question. What, if any, regulation is actually in effect in this situation?
  13. One crucial difference is that the church won't have any kind of premises/entertainment licence. So the sort of issue we're discussing here won't even be on the radar of those in authority, and they're unlikely to have a council inspector pull them up about it. I've seen quite a bit of downright dangerous stuff in churches - both electrical and rigging/structural - and trying to get it addressed is often an uphill struggle. There are circumstances in which a 10m truss span could be done safely. We've twice built goalpost trusses between balconies, but they've been properly rated (not a random eBay buy) and fixed to pillars for lateral support. Doing it properly will probably cost about the same as the price difference on a projector with a long-throw lens, though. The arithmetic was different a decade or so ago... That's my thinking exactly. And this particular building is very suitable for using a pair of large-screen TV displays instead - even cheaper than the long-throw projector option. And much less ugly than truss across the middle! Good point about the licence - but they will still have a periodic inspection from their insurers, in my experience. That's usually where safety issues get raised (and then often ignored). It's a nonconformist chapel - and I'm a minister of one of those too, so I have got a fair bit of relevant experience.
  14. You are of course right. "Let's shove a couple of lights up there for Christmas". The plan is for end support only, by the way. I'm interested in the extent to which a church is a private place, and thus (first reply) can do what it likes as far as safety codes go, or is it a public place - anyone can just drop in - and it must comply. After all, a theatre is also privately owned, but is a public place. Surely it is public? The law says a “Public place” includes any highway and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise ”.

    Headset mics

What age children? headset mics are almost as much about fit as they are about sound quality!
  16. Folks - just to say I am not looking for 'how to do this' advice. I have a client who wants to install a projector in a church. I've outlined a number of solutions that I am happy with. But the client has said 'can't I just get a length of truss from eBay and put that across the central area (there is a balcony all round). That way I can use a much cheaper projector, rather than a long throw one from the back. The span is around 10m. I don't need advice on his solution! I'm not competent to engineer it, and wouldn't consider it. What I do need is to know what regulatory constraints would be relevant to the installation and use of such a solution. Would it need to be inspected, tested etc. Or could he legally do what he suggests - buy a length of truss from eBay and install it above the heads of the public?
  17. I see that Midas have just launched a new personal monitor system that uses AES50 instead of Ultranet, and seems to be claiming "Compatible with any 44.1/48 kHz AES50-equipped devices including Midas and Behringer digital consoles and I/O boxes" - which means the X32. Is this the first in a new generation? Start of a series of products?
  18. Those look great - thanks.
  19. I've used the EV ZX-A1 - in white - for quite a few small room installs, and I like them a lot. But I've got an install coming up which is a bit more budget conscious. Anything around which is near the same performance, also in white, but closer to £250 than £450 each? I have used the LD systems SAT-62A, but they are a little too small for the job. I've never used the SAT-82A, so don't know how much extra you get for the extra 2"! I'm not that bothered whether they are passive or powered - and they could be other than white if they were suitable for painting. Any good ideas?
  20. Yup. I have a similar system, and because the router (or in my case, access point with DHCP server) is up the pole, I run just a single Cat5 to it, and have a separate network switch at the XR18 end. And that makes it easy to have a laptop plugged in running control software, for those moments when the iPad / Android WiFi link drops - which it hasn't yet for me, ever. I would also add that Mixing Station is a must-have app for control. I use a small rackmount submixer to do drums, which increases the overall channel count, and a couple of 8-way snakes to tidy up the stage cabling. I completely agree with Shez's post.
  21. David - I'm absolutely sure that most BR folk would be keen to beta test (or even alpha test!) what you are doing. Have you considered releasing an early beta on here for feedback and comment?

    Trantec S2.4

That sounds as if it is broken. I'd send it back - the old Trantec S4 wasn't like that.
