  1. I have 8 LED Pixel Bars that have 18 x 3w RGB Pixel Led's. No markings on outside, control board has Wm LED on it. It has 8 DMX modes, 2/3/5/6/8/9/18/54 channels. I have worked out most of the DMX channels, not sure of channel 1 in 2ch, 5ch, channel 3, 4, 5 in 8 channel mode. Does anyone have a manual for this led bar please ? The picture is a COYO Outdoor IP65 18x3W RGB 3in1 LED Pixel BAR Wall Washer Light Model Number:OBAR1803 but it has 56 channel mode DMX Channel: 2/3/5/6/8/9/18/54/56 CHs. Thanks for any info.

  2. I have had Chinese suppliers fit lower wattage power supplies to led par's I have bought the same led par's from before. When I asked them why they said it was because they did not have thermal overload circuitry so reduced the power supply wattage to limit led damage. I mainly use my led par's indoor and if outdoor avoid rigging in direct sunlight to avoid overheating. Even indoors some users can have overheating by rigging conventional lights alongside led par's. You may have two different power supplies. Uking will answer any questions on emails or web chat.

  3. It is very hard trying to find a budget RGBW LED Moving Head Profile. I bought two Colorfullight Butterfly 150W RGBW LED  in 2014 as I did not want colour wheels. These are still working, noisy fans but they are thermally controlled so not a problem with music shows. As with any Chinese origin lighting, in this case Hong Kong lighting, the manuals and web page descriptions are inaccurate and conflicting. One of them was damaged in transit, I had to strip it down and rebuild it after straightening the yoke which took a lot of work but was worth it. Beam width is 14 degrees, they keep it narrow to get a bright output. No Iris but I wanted to keep the weight down so did not want too many stepper motors. Having rotating and fixed glass gobos is a bonus. Colorfullight have not had them available for many years now.

I did buy an RGBW moving head profile from MSLighting MHLED200 but it had pan problems, it randomly jumped a few degrees. was not able to resolve the problem so sold it but maybe should have persevered more with the fault.

  4. Take a note pf the upper or lower case of the two letters. Sometimes A is larger channel numbers and d is smaller channel numbers. Easiest way to work out the channel functions is to use a desk with at least 12 channels so you can check if there are interactions between channels.

  5. When choosing any light I check the specs, something not many Chinese suppliers will provide in detail. U'King are good for putting their specs on their web site and you can ask them for more details. The specs of the b117 are below. I look for air cooled in the specs, if not mentioned then there may be fans. I still ask them the question to confirm no fans. Expect fans with slim par fixtures, especially light weight plastic ones, as it is the only way to get rid of the heat. The wide beam width of 45 degrees will provide a comparable coverage to a fresnel in small venues and be useful for low ceilings, but will not be as bright when compared beside a similar wattage standard 25 degree beam width led par. When I am looking for a quiet led par, I look for at least 6kg for a 200W led par, or get an outdoor one with indoor connectors, not tails with IP65 connectors. You need to do a PAT test to confirm that the earth is there, I have got led par's that have had the earth lug screwed onto the plastic body of a PowerCon input socket. The manual that I attached below stated that the led par has RDM (each LED PAR has UID (Unique Identification Number) which they do have, but the RDM is not functional, all you can do is read the UID !

  6. Thanks Paul, very useful video, he is correct about getting different models, even after a few weeks ! Hope anyone considering buying Chinese lights watches it before buying.

I purchased a Hosen BeeEye clone from Hosen Lighting , a company that I had bought from before, that I saw on the Alibaba web site, so when they sent me  PI for USD$790 I did a bank transfer, but they sent me their old bank account number, so I lost my money, my bank was not able to recover it as someone in China has claimed it. Lesson learnt is always use their Trade Assurance payment service for buyer protection.

  7. I have been caught out again with another Chinese lighting company, in this case, Huayin Lighting that I have been buying lights from 2 years now.

The reply from them when I asked for RGBAL COB was

"Yes, it's mistake the supplier describe wrong color,100W COB only have RGB+W+C, no RGBAL (If quantity very big, possible to customize 100W RGBAL, but looks difficult to meet the quantity).  Now confirm only have 20w RGB+Lemon+Amber+Cyan 6in1 LED.

I just apply to company, actaully we describe wrong color, but company only agree reduce the amount USD347.4+38.4= USD385.8 at your next order payment. (For shipping cost, company don't agree to reduce this. For my private reason, when ever future several order total amount over USD5000,I will reduce the USD209.2 also )"

Because I had been dealing with Huayin Lighting for 2 years I had been doing International Transfers as there had been no serious problems with the 6in1 LED Par's. which they had modified to meet Australian Standards including product labelling. They have not been able to supply Powercon mains leads to meet Australian Standards, their molded Australian 3 pin plugs have Blue Active and Brown neutral, so if you wire the Powercon according to the wire colours, you are wiring it the wrong polarity !

But because I purchased the 100W RGBAL Square COB with International Transfers I am not eligible for Alibaba Trade Assurance for product conformity.

If you want to try Chinese lighting, only buy through their trade portals.

  8. We did this many years ago at The Garrick Theatre in Guildford, Western Australia, but to a bat above the audience for a Dracula production. A fishing line was run from the back of the stage to a platform at the back of the auditorium. The bat was attached by a ring to a fishing line that was tied to the rim of a bicycle rear wheel, so an operator could use the pedals to reel the bat onto the platform, so the audience saw the bat flying through the air without seeing the thin fishing line. The bat was tied off to a support at the back of the stage so the reel in fishing line could be pre-tensioned so it started fast. The large diameter rim was chosen to reel in the bat quickly.

Worked well every night until the last night of the season, when the SM forgot to release the bat. The operator started reeling in the bat on cue, the fishing line gave a straining sound, then the bat tore loose from the restraining line, hit an actor on the shoulder, then the shredded bat flapped through the air to much laughter from the audience.

  9. This is the original details supplied when I requested a small RGBW COB to use as footlights with no fans. This is the advert on http://www.huayinlight.com/index.php?  the Huayin Light web site offering 4in1. I was then offered RGBAL. It has promise but they lack QC.

I am waiting for their "engineer" to reply, them I will ask for RGBAL COB's if they exist and fit them myself.

  10. That doesn't sound right. The head of the coach head bolt normally is the friction brake making contact with the tilt disk. If you are using a washer between the coach head bolt and the tilt disk, make sure it has good clearance with the square head shaft of the coach head bolt. I use a square file to open up the round hole of a washer if I am adding a washer. I don't have an exploded picture of a Prelude but the Patt23 is similar.

Did a bit more research and found https://www.theatrecrafts.com/bhc/equipment/strand-prelude exploded view diagrams for Prelude on Theatrecrafts website, so ignore my comments above.

  11. Thanks Tomo, that's what it looked like visually. I have got the fixture file from Edward, certainly do not get fixture files that fast from other manufacturers, so will have a play.

  12. I bought six samples of a COB LED PAR 100W RGBAL 5in1 to try out. it comes with a 60 degree lens, looks like a PC lens, and I got the optional 24 degrees and 90 degrees lens. When I tried it out, the RGB was OK, but the last two colours were White and what I think is Cyan ! The letters on the COB are EVC R- G- B- W- C- and an unmarked corner which I assume is ++.

Has anyone come across this combination of RGBWC ? I will have to ask Edward to make a fixture file for my FLXS so I can see what it does.

  13. Looking at Thomann for pricing, I would recommend the Zero88 FLXS24 desk instead of the LightShark LS-1 which is a tablet or phone screen based desk, great for youth minds but not too user friendly with users that like to push up a fader to see a light work. The FLX S 24 has a 7" touch screen but connecting a laptop or PC to the network port and using the Monitor program gives you a large external screen and most of the functionality of a FLX S48 with an external monitor.

Have a look at the Stage CL Stage CL UK which will do everything you want for a small community theatre. The colour picker is limited but you can replace their colour swatches with your own choices. Training videos on line. Not designed for movers at that price.
