  1. Unless someone creates as whole load of fixtures I don't think this is of much use for visualisation. Where this would be of a lot of interest is for dynamically "lighting" virtual sets in real time, using DMX control for lighting within the Unreal engine. James.
  2. Hi all. Our church (like I suspect many others) has adapted quite a bit over the last year to the change in scenarios and for many months we have been live streaming our services with varying numbers of people depending on what guidelines are in place for safety. Are there any recommendations for headphones or in-ears that would give enough isolation to be able to mix for broadcast without being too coloured by the ambient acoustics. Typically at mix position we will be getting 75-85 dB A(slow) from backline and monitors alone, 90-95 with FOH running and I don't want to be killing my hearing running cans loud enough to get over this. Somewhat frustratingly for the last few months I've been doing this remotely from another room, acoustically isolated from the church using a tablet remote and I have been very happy with the results. Recently policy has changed and I'm required to mix the streaming sound from within the church itself on cans (Currently using DT770s), and listening back I'm very unhappy with the results. This policy is highly unlikely to change and therefore I'm trying to find the best solution to work in the situation and if investing in different cans or in-ears will help then it's something I'd like to consider. Thanks for any advice in this situation. James.

    Yamaha 01v96

Long time 01v96 user here - What are you trying to achieve and what is your experience so far of the 01v96? It would be good to understand what external reverb unit you would like to use, how you would like to plug it in and what you want to achieve with it that the internal effects units can't do. Thanks James.
  4. And it doesn't seem to clash with IBC this year. Hmmm.
  5. Glad to hear your experiences Brian, We are hopefully due to see our local notapanto next week all being well - Dare I ask how did it go down with the younger generation? James.
  6. Hi Dan Hopefully this post is acceptable and doesn't fall foul of any advertising T&C In my day job I work for Red Bee Media and we have an OTT product that appears to be exactly what you are looking for This is a white label service that you can take on and brand exactly as you want simply and easily. https://www.redbeemedia.com/services/ott/ It supports a number of different monetization opportunities you could explore some or all of: Different subscription levels for access to different content, Pay-Per-View for Premium content or live events, Advertising with 'Free' to view content, Service side Add insertion to enable targeted advertisements, etc. There is a link to request more information on our website, or DM me and I'll try to put you in touch with the right person. James.
  7. I haven't looked at the link or others but ringing a phone is so easy. Use a 100V anplifier, plug a standard phone into the loudspeaker output without any loudspeakers and play a your chosen sound effect. The phone will ring and when its picked up the ringing will stop. Adjust the volume so it rings OK but the sound coming from the receiver is not heard. Easy Peasy squeezed lemons etc. I tend to play sound effects through the auditorium speakers when fitted in small halls for AmDram, if needed in a specific place I'll add additional speakers, such as canford powered speaker. Example: we wanted an ice cream van to arrive from behind the audience, sound like it came through the room then disappear to the rear of the stage. The sound faded up slowly at the rear, then into the mains then back stage then faded out in the same order. If they insist on door knocker SFX there will be a speaker by the door etc and I find the canfords are ideal. One village hall with only one access to the stage has a permanently fitted speaker there, just for that reason. I went down this route some years ago on a production. created the waves with the correct cadence for UK ringing as an effect - played through a 100v amp to correctly ring a practical period phone on set. The reaction from the director was something along the lines of "That sounds brilliant - but can we have it a bit louder please" (James) Glad I'd also rigged a spot FX speaker above the practical phone for contingency so used that instead. James.
  8. I might have a look at that. SFX 5.6 is still my go-to playback software (partly as I've never had time or money spare to look at anything else) James.
  9. Hi Ian I have no relationship with LightFactory other than as a satisfied user, Would you be interested in any (remote) help getting it setup? (I'll admit there is a bit of a learning curve for configuration if you are not familiar) but once setup can be far simpler to operate as well as being having a lot more potential than the other desks you have mentioned. James.
  10. I've never found a way to change this so I end up running the screen resolution to suit the application which is a horrible way of doing things. From memory I think the system tends to show the receivers in the order discovered by the OS - it has been a time (as I tend to use a system that is already configured) but I seem to remember deleting all receivers in device manager, plugging all in (depowered) and then powering up in the order you want them to be identified might work. Agree this software is fairly limited (but it is getting on a bit) and compared to the previous systems I had been using that had no remote monitoring it was a great improvement. James.
  11. Are you working with S5.3 or S5.5 (from memory name change remotely was a 5.5 only option) James.
  12. I feel like I need to make amends slightly for my rant... I had been taking about some of the worst examples I was aware of, there are others that are particularly good which should be used as examples of good practice. It was many years since I was last there but I still remember the Taizé church in France that is still my benchmark on how sound should be done in churches, absolutely faultless, crystal clear and almost completely invisible. James
  13. I have spent a lot of time working with churches and sound systems, and in so many cases sound systems fail due to a unacheivable expectations. So often we are faced with. Why doesn't it work, all I want is one button to switch it on.. And the best automixing system in the world will fail when presented with almost random microphone placement and highly variable input volumes ave uncooperative attitudes. - member of clergy with strong voice who clips lavalier to top of cassock collar so it is brushing hard against adams apple - nervous lay reader who clips to mid chest and backs off every time they hear their own voice. Etc. Etc. Etc. Ann's the general attitude of.. it should just work when we switch it on... And.... We can't consider training up a volunteer or paying someone to look after this because it should just work.... I did do some sessions in one diocees as part of Minster training programme that were enlightening for those attending but attitudes can be so entrenched that nothing seems to change long term Rant over James.
  14. Unless someone comes up with a large curve-ball this event should happen before the current expected date for Brexit, good to bear in mind for anything in the future. Ideally I'd rather source locally, just not sure what the local market rates are expected to be. James.
  15. Hi All, Taking an event to Dublin in a few weeks and wanted to see if there were any recommendations for local hire companies to deal with. Currently getting quotes from Venue that are eyewateringly expensive compared to what I'm used to in UK and wondered if that was normal for the local marketplace. examples received so far include: (all for less than a week's hire) EW500 Radio Mic - 360 EUR/Channel ATEM Vision Mixer - 1000 EUR Sony EX3 975 EUR/each Mac 301 Wash 1,400 EUR/each !!!! At these rates it's becoming a tempting proposition to source locally, and pay for freight transit over ferry! Much appreciated. James.
  16. Assuming you are connecting the speakers in parallel rather than in series then the 8Ohm load will appear to be 4Ohm See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohm%27s_law Looking at the spec of the amplifier 2 x 190 W at 4 ohms so ~95W into each 100W speaker which is reasonably well matched if you keep an eye on things This is of course slightly dependent on the type of content you are intending to use this for. Hope this helps. James.
  17. Good to hear Tim. Have to confess; A) we have over of the active openlp developers at our church. B) I've never been particularly involved in the song word side of things generally spending more time on lx or sound. So can't say for certain way version we are currently using... or if it's even publicly available... ;) ... but it certainly does what we need it to do.
  18. Tim We have had some powerpoint work OK directly in OpenLP, are you working with the latest version? It can get a little sensitive depending on what is in the ppt (embedded media/video etc) and also what was used to create the ppt (which version of ppt, or ppt 'compatible' keynote etc..) That said for install use we run a 2nd PC dedicated for PPT and switch externally for primary screens. James.
  19. Another alternative you might consider looking at. Open LP (https://openlp.org/) is a Free open source piece of software designed entirely around song word presentation for churches. If you were to transfer your song words from Powerpoint to OpenLP then there would be a number of options available to you (I appreciate there would be a setup/transition time to do this) OpenLP supports wireless access over wifi. Songs are loaded into OpenLP and are assigned a structure (Verse1, Verse2, Chorus, Verse3, Bridge, Chorus, Chorus) that will be presented to the operator as default however anything can be recalled simply and easily in an asynchronous fashion if needed. OpenLP has a "Stage View" function. With this your band members can use their Android/IoS/Windows tablets (anything that will display a web page) to view the OpenLP output - this will automatically update to show the current selected slide / words (And will also show the next words according to the default word order instantly updating itself if there are any changes. In order to use OpenLP you would need a laptop (as you already have) and to use "StageView" you would probably be best adding a wifi base station. This is a solution that would be entirely format agnostic (Laptop will run output display at whatever resolution is needed for your projector / house projector) and will always be able to run the stage view irrespective . There would be less equipment to carry and less cabling on stage. Hope this helps. James.
  20. I had a magnum 1000 once, It came without a remote so I contacted Martin and they gave me a copy of the circuit diagram for the original remote. I bradborded one to test and found the pump was dead so scrapped the thing. I still have the circuit diagram hanging around, let me know if you have no joy with Martin and I'll try to scan it for you. James
  21. I've had some of my best mirrorball results with 2 Solar 250's flown either side at short range. I appreciate you probably don't have these to hand but in case you do... I ran them switched obviously as they are fan cooled... James
