  1. Last time I did noise monitoring for a festival, we were given that same 65dB figure with a 5 minute LAeq along with the addresses of various properties containing known complainers. All of which had a main road right in front of them. Recording baseline figures without PA did of course register above 65 and whilst PA was audible during the event itself, it didn't show up on the meter readings. There's a human element here too - your ears will tell you whether the noise is potentially objectionable even if the meter says it's OK. We had to pull the headliners early as they were known for being very subby (and their engineer wouldn't budge on that) and that low end was travelling rather too well. Borderline on the meter but it was the kind of frequencies that make windows rattle and that really wasn't on. We tried the offer of free holidays too - no go - some people just like to complain. Stuart - can't you take a meter to the location in question to get some numbers for the ambient levels? I suspect many folks don't have much concept of what 65dBA sounds like; depending on which table you believe, it's somewhere between conversational speech and a dishwasher...
  2. Coordinating frequencies is vastly more complicated than just leaving 0.4MHz between them. You can either do some hefty number crunching and still potentially get it wrong or just rely on the data supplied by those who designed the hardware.
  3. I've just rung them to order a couple of beltpack input connectors; the direct number for Yamaha spares is 01603 489421. I get the impression that their preferred workflow is for you to email / submit web form to them first with what you're after and then phone once they've sent you a price. I'm sure it's possible to do it all on the phone but I suspect may take a while.
  4. I fear Sontec are your best bet. I've not yet tried phoning them but they do respond to email (or maybe it was a form on their website - I don't recall)

  6. To be fair to them, doing another mail merge just to put a name at the top of the letter, or paying someone to hand write such names on is far more time and money consuming than just bulk printing a bunch of letters. If you're got 100+ applicants to process, it's not a small undertaking. At the end of the day, it's their job and their terms. At the fist venue I ever worked for, I recall hearing a story about the application process for another tech they were taking on. The ad stated no CVs, fill in the form. One applicant sent his CV with a note saying "please don't ask me to fill in the form, all the information you need is on my CV". Unsurprisingly, that went straight in the bin. He perfectly demonstrated that he couldn't follow basic, written instructions and so fell at the first hurdle.
  7. Agreed. They're funny things - we have one that will cut through moderately thick wood, leather etc but won't even cut aluminium foil...
  8. Care to share what the solution was? It's always useful to post such things for the benefit of other users having the same issue.
  9. I may be thinking too far outside of the box here, but if each output you want to feed in to the system comes from a headphone socket, why not just use a an earbud type headphone? It won't block out the sound from your comms headset too much, it's very cheap and easy and avoids any electrical connections between systems.
