  1. Extreme thread necromancy warning - a message to my younger self.

Boy, your spelling is bad. I'm glad you worked on that.

I finally have the perfect solution to this, yet no longer have the need. The ASL PS19A does exactly what I was trying to achieve. I picked up a couple of units second hand, and they work flawlessly, however a lot of my clients have now invested in green go systems...

  2. Well there is one sat here with your name on it - and I wasn't even going to charge you postage! Oh well, into the box of random adaptors it shall go. Was second hand parts from my old scroller stock and an offcut of starquad, so didn't owe me anything.

Just for reference all packs I've ever come across (telex, clearcom, stonewood/metro, tecpro) all share the same pinout for headsets

Pin 1 Microphone earth / screen

    Pin 2 Microphone signal

    Pin 3 Earphones earth/screen

    Pin 4 Earphones signal

Now that reminds me, time for a bit of embarrassing thread necromancy from a much younger version of myself...

  3. Which ethercons are you buying that’ll fit in an NA housing James? All the ones I’ve seen are too large on the inside of the panel to fit inside the box. I’ve been wanting to make up some ethercon to standard Ethernet adapters (essentially an na housing with an ethercon in one end and a plate with a gland in holding a captive Ethernet patch lead in the other. Haven’t been able to find an ethercon that’ll fit though.

As my post eluded to - when we costed everything out it made more sense to just buy the NE8FF. I do have a few Female to male fly lead adaptors that I made from broken NE8FF's, from memory the ethercon is the NE8FAV with a slightly smaller PCB than the NE8FDP-B.

    EDIT - blooming part numbers!

  4. NA-housing, an ethercon in a d shape on one side, a blanking plate and a gland on the other side, half an hour to build if it’s a one off, less of you are cracking through a whole bunch... or just buy the couplers!
  5. What are the benefits of the two processing engines if the unit only has one DMX output? I get that it is "future proofing" for when DMX isn't required, but in that situation, plugging lights directly into a network removes the need for nodes entirely, so what would the process engines be required for exactly?
  6. They are very similar to the showtec creator 1024 controllers that run a very “Avolites like” software that uses R20 personalities. So think of it like a classic pearl (pre Titan) and you get the rough idea. The colour scheme is a giveaway....
  7. When I find I need or wish I had something more than a couple of times in a row, then I buy it.

If you're that busy, then this method will fill you up with the perfect kit for your workload pretty fast.

One of the best pieces of advice I received was to buy a basic cheap set of tools, and replace them piece by piece with good quality items as they wore out. This gives you a cheap start, spreading the cost of expensive tools over a longer period, and helps you find what you actually need and use.

  8. it's not uncommon to see a band touring a selection of bits from RML's "Disco Basement" as a retro look for a song or two, although they aren't the little mobile DJ oriented units you have

The control of these moonflower effects back in the day was just powering the mains on and off, from home made disco consoles with just banks of switched sockets, to (if you were fancy) touch panels and switchpacks (analog of course)

Sadly there are some things that have never been bettered from that pre-DMX control era, such as strobeflowers, arcline, quazars... Which ties in nicely to your post on strobes.

  9. I’ve not heard them but the K-array tornado kt2 caught my eye as a small fill speaker option recently. I’m not sure about their combined speaker and led models, they look very gimmicky, but the speaker might be an avenue to explore
