Nexo reviews in "Music mart"..................where are they

I find it flabbergasting that I have never seen one review of a Nexo product in Music mart magazine.

What is going on????

This company is so popular with musicians and pro PA companies alike so for none of it's products to have featured in any issue of the magazine I find totally amazing.

I was thinking along they lines Andrew but these magazines always "bang" on about how they are neutral and judge all products fairly and equally but it seems that I may have been wrong in offering this otherwise good magazine the benefit of the doubt!

In fairness to Music Mart, Nexo gear is quite 'high-end' compared to a lot of products that are featured in their reviews. Some PA systems reviewed in the magazine cost the same as one Nexo box so maybe they figure that their general reader base wouldn't be looking at spending at that level...

Also, I don't think Nexo have brought anything new (and in the Music Mart price-bracket) out recently to be reviewed!

how about the magazine being more for the novice / musician, rather than the pro / semi pro sound engineer (who're more interested in decent sound, than price and how plasticy the speakers are in their build.

Nexo speakers are pro stuff.

(IMHO)

Edit: ooh it looks like the Bassman has similar views to me! (nice to know)

...how do you explain the reviews of all the Ffohn,RCF,turbosound gear?

Granted that they seem to be reviewing more pro stuff. They seem to be allowing a bit of the more beginnery (is that a word?) pro end stuff in their mags, which I think we have the new editor to thank for.

The Turbosound stuff they reviewed a few magazines back, was a self powered system and so had that added convenience, which seem to be more popular amongst bands these days.

I personally wouldn't rate any of those above mentioned systems any where near as highly as the Nexo Gear.

If you want a review for Nexo, the French magazine SONO recently reviewed the Geo T system. However unlike most reviews in this mag the cabinets are not opened up. this may be because Nexo may not want people seeing what's inside, therefore this may also explain Music Mart also not reviewing the products.

I do seem to recall that Music Mart may have reviewed the P15 a few years ago (prepared to be wrong tho).

Rinkydinkron, Musicmart may not have a review, but I will offer you one. NOw bear in mind that this will be a very non-technical review:

I use a PS-15 system with two LS-1200 bass bins. They are powered by 2 Camco Vortex 6 power amps. While I rarely get to stand in front of them to behold the glory that is NEXO, as I am the one doing the performing, people, novices and fellow musos alike, never fail to tell me how great my sound is.

However, when I do get the chance to stand in front of my system during sound checks, I am always moved to wanting to perform a solo sexual act because they sound soooooooooo damned incredible.

Let the babies at music mart have their bottle and let's keep the NEXO secret among real men ( and women)..

Thanks for that "short and sweet" review Drowner!

I get a similar feeling when I hear my PS15 system with single LS1200 out front at breaks but I haven't really had the chance to sample it at full volume as I,like you am always on the other side playing.

I can't wait to get hold of another LS1200 but have to say at most of the venues I have played so far I haven't needed the additional sub.

I am always blown away with the quality and power of the PS15 system even at full volume.

I always find it weird though how it never sounds that loud especially from behind the FOH because the sound stays so articulate and clean even though it's putting out high SPL's.

I've had years of hearing that ear achingly, unbearably loud, deafening and indiscernable mush that cheap PA speakers put out and I feel like I'm in heaven now I've found the Nexos.

Agreed, Rinkydinkron,

What amazes me is that from across a room they sound incredible, but the closer you get to them it does not seem to get louder or uncomfortable.

While I really don't need the second LS-1200, it does give an extra oomph and I like symmetry.

They never cease to amaze me.

I think that manufacturers tend to market their products according to the type of buyer they want to attract.

Lower cost, higher volume items are likely to be advertised in the Music Magazines.

With high cost specialist items (everything that Nexo make fall into this category), they are more likely to try and persuade the rental companies to take the product on board so that industry professionals see the product on site and spread the news by "word of mouth".

My personal view is :

Nexo PS8 - Great and very useful product, can sound a bit lively until it has been EQ'd to suit the application

Nexo PS10- Fantastic product, incredidbly smooth even with a flat EQ

Nexo PS15- Fantastic product, smooth and loud

Common sense says that whatever the mags say - advertising pays the bills! If a manufacturer (like Turbosound in this example) have product right accross the price and quality ranges, then a review of a top class product stimulates sales of lower ticket items, on the often mistaken premise that it must be as good. While the thinly disguised ads wrapped up as reviews have mainly gone, there is a real tendency to promote the good bits and merely skim quickly accross any problem areas. To quote one dear to my heart - JVC have a new video camera and are using an event for Texaco as a promotion tool - google picks up the same text from loads of sources. The text does show an area with a serious issue- as in a wide screen 16:9 camera that doesn't have 16:9 ccds - this fact is almost burried in the over the top slap on the back text.

If you are a magazine editor - upsetting the advertisers is not the thing to do. Being totally honest is bad for income, being selective is much, much better for everyone - well, apart from the people reading the review.
