one ton load arresters - not fall arresters!

In the interests of fairness and non commercialism (chaps, we can all buy and sell them) they often originate at Globestock in Telford or Sala in Runcorn as well as the usual lifting gear suppliers. Many were developed for things like hangar doors and other situations very like what we do with them - small number of lifting machines, need for redundant or secondary suspension that looks after itself.

The traditional problems are 'nuisance' arresting on moving pieces, lack of drift and load capacity. You often have to use them two fall to get the capacity at the expense of travel.

I did some work with a company years ago to try developing them to be used inverted - don't unless expressly authorised by the manufacturer, and secondly, ensure they are always above the load and as close to vertical as possible. As is being highlighted currently with fall arrest blocks, a swinging fall on an 'inertia' device doesn't necessarily load the device such that it locks; result - load not arrested.
