Job Summary

We are looking for a Duty Technician to work as part of in-house venue team. Responsible for maintaining technical equipment, assisting with productions, troubleshooting, and ensuring smooth operations. Prior experience in theatre tech and strong problem-solving skills required.

REPORTING

You will report directly to the Technical Manager and Theatre Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

In order to be considered for this position you will need to evidence and demonstrate:

Experience

  • ETC GIO programming
  • Ability to set up and operate a sound system
  • Experience with flying both counterweight and hemp rope.
  • Experience as a Duty Technician within a similar entertainment environment
  • Experience in Technical Theatre
  • A proactive & strategic attitude displaying high levels of attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • A willingness to undertake any training as required by the Technical Manager

Job Requirements

General

  • Run get ins, fit ups and get outs as required acting as building keyholder.
  • Duty Managing shows (technically) on behalf of the Arts Theatre, assist incoming companies with their set up for shows including rig checks and flying or any other reasonable duties.
  • Liaise with all hire companies and contractors as required communicating any technical requirements or elements as specified.
  • Building wide maintenance - in support of the venue and management, ensuring a careful and considerate PPM regime is followed.
  • Perform daily lamp rounds.
  • Liaise with the show and venue management daily on any show related issues or failures as required.

Fire Safety

  • Act as Fire Marshal for all shows, performances or hires.
  • Perform weekly tests of the fire alarm.
  • Visually check and inspect all fire FFE and report any faults.
  • Ensure the building fire exits are unchained each day prior to a performance and visually check all fire exits for any inconsistencies or hazards.

Job Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  • Manage and help implement the venue's help and safety policy.
  • Ensure diligence for policy is carried out daily by visiting company.
  • Communicate H&S policy as required.
  • Maintain and restock all First aid kits as required.
  • Maintain up to date records or alarm tests, restocking and any other legislation required documentation in relation to the building and venue.
  • Ensure the safe evacuation of the building in the event of an emergency and liaise with emergency services as required. Take instruction from the duty manager and support as requested.
  • To be an ambassador for the safety and well-being of all staff and public in the building, working with Senior Management to ensure all policies are adhered to.
