HK AUDIO ACTOR

Hi everyone,a question, I am a die hard original RCF Event Series fan having been using them for over 20 years now, I run 4 1018,s 6 1000,s and 2 3000,s

Powered by QSC Powerlight 3400,s and a yamaha 12 channel analogue desk, I have been a jock for 39 years but tend to do more and more PA work for charity cuircut singers with them bringing there tracks on sticks or iphones, no 8 track mastering anymore! Anyway I have always loved the warm but punchy sound of the Event Series kit but am now wondering if for ease I might be better placed to run the afformentioned HK Actor powered rig, my thoughts are will it come near or surpase my Event system and how reliable are the amps? Having built in amps means if you lose an amp you lose a speaker whereas at the moment I can just repatch and drop the channel of the amp down to compensate for the increased load, but less kit to cart around.

My venues are normally between 150 and 750 people inside but 1 or 2 times a yearand outside gig of upto 4000 people, not a rock concert so I dont need 30k but my rig is a genuin 5k at the moment if needed but not often more like 2.5k most of the time.

Right time for me to shut up and ask anyones opinion, what do you reckon,,,,,,,,the floor is yours?

I have a mk1 hk actor rig and a newer pulsar rig for bigger gigs.

Either one regularly gets complements about the quality of sound they put out - the 15inch subs on the actor have a surprising amount of punch for the power and 15s but in a pub/small club they have plenty of power.

Quick to setup - plug and play linked to a digital desk to eq in my case. They are mdf type material rather than ply but I've touched my up to hide any dings.

They seem very reliable and just keep going so I keep the actor for smaller gigs or occasionally to add to the pulsar for a huge sound.

I'm used to mixing bands so my power demands differ to yours but it would probably struggle a little in the bigger rooms - 750 people is a big ask unless you are thinking about doubling up two actor rigs.

It's worth comparing the two versions of the actor - I have the older mk1 and it has an old school traditional design for the amp modules so they are fairly easy for a tech to work on if you did need any repairs.

I've got a few boxes of the hk premium pro range as well and despite the naff name they throw out a fair sound as well so might be worth a look.

The other alternative to rcf for active speakers to check out are yamaha which have links to nexo for the designs and sound great.

dB Technologies are part of the same parent group as RCF. They share many components and are typically a little less expensive than the RCF equivalent.

We're dealers for dB but have used a bunch of it in our own hire stock and have been very pleased with it. For small-medium size rooms the IG3T is a great box, good output and coverage and it's very hard to make it feed back.
