eventwifi
Hi All,I need someone with an unusual set of skills for a freelance person. We are an Events company that offers WiFi, CCTV and Telephones. We also have a sister compnay that does event electrics and PA / Lighting. The job needs someone who has a little bit of networking knowlege, little bit of electrics but most of all good at DIY / Problem solving. Also need to be able to drive, happy to stay away and is reliable. Its not like a normal job where I can ask for someone who does lighting....Any ideas where to look or do you know someone? is it you?richard@eventwifi.net or reply here. Thanks in advance.Rich. ninjadingle
I would suggest you're going to have to start by looking for a basic tech in one area (ie a LX op) and invest a little time in training them up in the areas you provide as extras. Good techs normally have sound problem solving skills, and most techs these days understand basic networking (ArtNet, Dante etc). Or if it's weekend work - get in touch ;-)
itiba
I think the key will be producing a detailed job description as "a little bit of networking knowlege" doesn't exactly narrow down who you're looking for.

Rich, I'd start looking in the CCTV sector - most kit is either IP or HD over coax, the guys will have experience usually of using things like ubiquiti kit to get a signal back to a dvr, so I'd say more suitable than a general lighting or sound engineer type person. I'd disagree there. Having worked in the CCTV world, a lot of people are very good at installing systems, and very bad applying that to a compromised setup or temporary installation. Sounds like up my street though, and also a fair few of the people I've worked with would be more than capable! You want general techs, but those that have a bit of experience being thrown at unfamiliar problems.
xllx
I'm an ex lampy that does a lot of event network and wifi work. Most people are event people that learnt networking, rather than networking people that learnt to do events. It has been mentioned by more than one person that old lampies seem to become IT crew :-)
