Gerry
I know it isn't advised to use sound cables for DMX lighting but is it OK to use DMX cables, 3 pin XLR variety, for sound?Mainly for mixer to amp connection.CheersGerry
paulears
I do it frequently - apart from the extra stiffness, there's no problem - certainly looking at the ones I have - the DMX cables are physically tougher too!

DMX is just STP that has been designed to have a characteristic impedance of 110Ω-120Ω. At audio frequencies the impedance of the cable is much less critical. DMX cable is just better specified audio cable. If the DMX cable is unshielded twisted pair, like CAT5, you may want to only use it for line level audio signals.
