IRW
The boards went up today, we surprised ourselves with some very neat joins! Lots of glue & panel pins, a great tip Paul. Started filling seams, I will upload some pics when back home and on laptop. I would normally use a cloth cyc but I wanted to build something more permanent that can be used as a projection screen as well as we are lucky to have just been donated a rather lovely short throw projector. Make sure you give us an update this time next year after it's been through a few heating/cooling cycles ;)
taylord
Sorry for the delay. Not sure if these pictures will show up. I will update when wall is finished and had a good run of heat! *Update* Link to pictures -
ImagineerTom
It’s not clear from the pictures, have you supported behind the joints directly -ie is there a battern strip behind the full length of each horizontal joint as well as behind the full length of all vertical ones? taylord
Yes - horizontal as well as vertical battens. We used standard 2”x1” pine for the battens and 4mm MDF for the screen. Wood glue on the battens then panel pinned every couple of inches or so.
ImagineerTom
Ah ok, that'll help4mm does move a lot through moisture absorption - make sure there's no prolonged periods with no heating on or any rapid temperature changes as that will make the MDF start moving
taylord
Handy to know, thanks. It’s on the stage in school hall so a fairly constant temp. I imagine once it’s painted and the edges have been sealed then moisture absorption is minimal?
