Active monitor used to power passive monitor

Hi all,

Just after a bit of shopping advice please. Looking to purchase a couple of active monitors for school. These - https://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_ma100.htm

I already have a pair of these - https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_eurolive_vs_1220f.htm and was thinking of using the active mon's to power the passive.

Has anybody used the Thomann wedges?

Cheers,

Dan.

Never used them, nor have I ever seen an active speaker with the capability to drive a passive speaker via speakon. Looks like a cool little feature! Could be very useful on a small scale!

They will work but you won't get anywhere near the rated output of the passives. The actives appear to be 100W, which may drop to 50W per speaker when a passive speaker is connected. See if you can get hold of a manual for the active, it should tell you what max power you can get with a passive attached.

Also bear in mind that if the sensitivity of the two speakers is significantly different, one will be way louder than the other, which might drive you bonkers.

The only speakers I'd previously come across that let you chain passives onto actives were the Fohhn X series. They've now discontinued the active tops, but do have active subs that will power their passive tops, which is still rather neat - albeit not cheap.

If you've already got the passive wedges, then presumably you've already got amplification for them, so why not just carry on using that?
