From what I can gather the holders are a simpler price for a good condition used letters. We have a pile that need the lamp holder replacing. The original Parsafe holders were a pig to use because they jammed in the ventilation hole. Thomas do a safety kit, which is a ventilated "lid" held in with a couple of spring clips - also a bit of a pig to use, as it's difficult to get the clips to latch properly.
