Analogue Radio Studio CAT5 Audio

Black Box

Recommended Posts

I've got the task of re-wiring an analogue radio studio shortly, and I've decided to go with CAT5 for all the balanced audio cables between our punchdown blocks and the mixing desk, after reading numerous threads about it on here.

Just got a couple of questions though, if anyone can help;

- Do I go shielded or un-shielded (the cable runs are short...less than 5 metres, but we're concerned about cross-talk)

- If shielded, does each pair need to be shielded, or just the core as a whole (does it make a difference?)

- If shielded, I connect the drain wire to the ground pin on the XLR, but where do I connect it on the punchdown block end?

Thanks guys.

Will these cables have mic level or line level signals in them?

Why is this posted in the lighting forum?

You can get Krone modules in pair+earth configuration eg

http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/46-101_KRONE-ABS-Module

and multiple earthing modules eg

http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/20128/46-020_TUK-237D-Module-red

(Krone version discontinued; Krone-compatibles available)
