Soundcraft Expression Gain Problem

This may be familiar territory to many of you but it caused me grief and took a while to sort out.

I'm posting the solution in case it helps someone else along the way.

 

Friday rehearsal the PA went quiet. Not off but quiet. Line inputs were quiet and mic inputs were quieter. It applied to Main and Aux outputs.

 

This morning I set out to resolve the issue.

 

The stage box inputs were quiet and unaffected by the gain control.

The 'analogue' inputs at the back of the mixer worked as expected.

 

A bit of scrabbling on the t'internet followed.

 

There is a little green with rows of dots box top right of the Expression screen. It tells the status of the stage box.

When it's lit up green then things are hunky dory.

When it's red the stage box is not communicating properly.

Of course my little box was red.

 

The solution is to get to the back of the stage box.

There is a little hole on the bottom left of the back panel with 'Reconfigure' written near it.

Take a jewellers' screwdriver and press the little button in there.

I switched everything off except the stagebox first. I don't know if that's necessary but it seemed sensible.

I then switched the stage box off and restarted in my usual way.

 

Everything is now hunky dory.
