DYS & Reflector vs Narrow Spot

I'm currently in a local rock band and we are looking for the "rock concert" effect in our lighting. Our beam throw is 10-20 feet.

Which PAR 56 bulb provides the best concert lighting effect (tight beam) and is most economical (when considering initial cost, bulb life and subsequent bulb replacement): A reflector kit and a DYS 300W bulb or a 300W Narrow spot?

Have a look at the beam angle of the brand of ray light you are using - perhaps somewhere between 4 and eight degrees, verses that of a NSP for a 300 PAR 56 that's normally at 12 degrees for at least the Philips 230v version of it.

Given the beam spread differences, and fairly short throw, it's more a question of the application and need for a spot light verses ray of light effect.

A DYS (A1264) lamp is 120Volt 600Watt and has an average life of 75 hours. Unless you series two together it would be best to use the A1244 240Volt 500Watt lamp which also has an average life of 75 hours.

The Raylight was originally designed to be an alternative to the GE4552 Par 64 aircraft landing lamp, which gives a ray beam and is very bright. The way the 4552 lamp is generally used is 8 in series, being 28Volt 250Watt. The disadvantage is you have to have 8 on together and if you get the wiring wrong it works out to be very expensive; also the lamp has only a 25 hour life.

The standard Par 56 lamp is better for general illumination being 240Volts at 300Watt and has an average life of 2000 hours. Par 56 lamps come in narrow spot, medium flood and wide flood.

It use to be common to customise the A1244 and DYS (A1264) lamp by painting or placing a cap on the tip of the lamp to sharpen up the beam.
