Moderation: I split this from one of the other Forbidden Planet topics (2006) as we don't usually reopen long dead topics - and this isn't a lighting question - I've put it here because it seems more suited to props

 

You are going to have some problems with the short timescale - fabric attached to varying size hoops, or even a hose will work, and once painted look pretty good. They can also contain a support system to suspend the science officer - been done a few times. I don't know anyone who has these for hire - they're usually custom made for the venue with the right drop and suspension method depending on how you want to fly them in. Timescale is going to be interesting for you. If you can sew, have some fabric - flame proofed calico might be light enough, then they're not that hard to produce - just fiddly and time consuming.
