timsabre Posted March 26, 2015 Share Posted March 26, 2015 As far as I know it is done using a fisheye camera and infrared source inside the sphere, you can detect touches by the light spots that appear when a finger is resting on the material. No, I don't know for sure that is the technique they are using, but that is the way it's done on most "internal sensing" devices, such as the interactive tables with the projector underneath. This page describes how it works, you get an image like thishttp://sethsandler.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/ftir-icon2.png and image processing is used to extract the touch points.
