Part of the problem with this is that STAC (see my last post) is only made by CM and being primarily for the US market it doesn't need a CE mark. Other US manufacturers with European manufacturing plants that do supply to Europe need to use the CE mark.

You won't (or shouldn't) find many bits of rigging in the UK or Europe without a CE mark, came in in 92. If you work in the US, it doesn't matter, they have their own standards. STAC meets the NACM (National Association of Chain Manufacturers) standards for Grade 80 chain for lifting overhead.

There are other long link chains but they aren't STAC but lashing or deck chains.

The 'offence' (apart from annoying riggers...) as I understand it from the

SoM(S)Regs, is to put it on the market or to provide it as an employer.

I don't agree with it either, but my last post gives details of the status quo.

I tried very hard to get it into BS7906:1 but because it doesn't comply with the Directive, thus UK legislation, it couldn't go in. (That was last September ish).

CM know of no incident arising from a failure or misuse of STAC.
