I do it all the time. It does take a bit of time but it is worth is for brightness and cost saving. Taking note of the following may be helpful:

You'll need vertical lens shift so you don't have to move the actual projector running everything.

Use a DA to make sure both projectors have the same signal and more importantly the same frame during play back.

Make sure both projectors have the same lenses in them and put them somewhere they won't get battered every day.

I have happily done this with up to three Barco Reality 6500 with 2. something lenses on top of each other and seen it done two Barco G5's with 1.8 lenses sitting side by side

 

has anyone had experience stacking projectors?

 

is it a time consuming and taxing experience?
