Temp theatre - decking as bench seating

To wrap this up, two images of the finished build - seats around 144 (we reduced a little & spaced it out) and each front leg on the corner went all the way though to the floor. We found some green chairs from elsewhere on site (compared to the red in the first image) so didn't need to use benching in the end.

The build was very quick & easy but the toeboarding and tension wire handrailing took a little longer than anticipated so dragged on a bit.

Just a thought, from earlier when you were considering sitting on the deck not chairs and the foam was extortionate - would it be simpler in future to just buy a pile of cheap cushions - ebay have inners for 99p, and pretty covers for the same price. Great fun afterwards too!

We thought about that - we tried cheap pillows inside sandbag hessian sacks to make fitting cushions - but the cheap pillows were so rubbish that they made no difference to sitting on the deck!

The overall evening ended up quite long as well (5 shows ran at 23m, 16m, 28m, 31m, 30m) plus interval - so ran about 2h30 in total - so it's a good job we didn't compromise as we were really struggling to make the seating work without backrests.

Would have been interesting but the extra height of that back row of chairs being on the deck as opposed to the audience sitting on the front of that row made it even steeper as well.
