gobo logo from profile for corporate

Hello noiseboy here , quite good at running generics from a masterpiece.

Corporate client coming into nightclub wants to project logo from gobo on profile lamp

apart from an 8 foot by 8 foot area on the stage ( which is either covered by a red serge starcloth or white 6 x6 screen ) there are few flat surfaces 90 dregrees to beam angle , or that are not covered in curtaining with folds.

I have projected gobo logos before , and its always a bit compromised.

I tried to point out it's not a fabulous idea but got shot down ( a bit of feet stamping )

client may also want to project logo onto dancefloor ( dont know how you will see it once you have a few punters down there.)

strand prelude profile 16/30 ( various, all a bit tired ) just over 10foot above dancefloor , at the edge.

if you focus on to dancefloor , you get an eliptical shape , not a perfectly round sphere.

if you project a logo cut gobo , image will be distorted / tombstoned /mis-scaled

are gobos able to be cut to take beam angle into consideration ?

Absolutely possible to correct for off-axis projection. It is called Keystone Correction - you can either do it to your image before you send it off (dust of the high-school trigonometry and then use your image editing software to correct it) or ask your supplier if they will do it (most will, as it is a fairly common request).

thanks Mac

Also , I dont know if I am missing ' runners ' or something from the gate , but using a GH73 which I understand is the correct gogo holder size for my ageing preludes , the holder seems to flap around quite a bit. Sits 'propped up on one end , rather fitting securely , with no movement.

Projecting a corporate logo is a very common request - we have rather of lot of ETC logo gobos!

Keystone correction is only worthwhile if they commit to a specific location, because it needs a different gobo for each angle.

In many cases the client is OK with it being 'stretched' as long as they know it'll happen beforehand - pre-visualisation software is invaluable for this.

It may be worth looking into hiring (and perhaps in the future buying) something with a 'cool' gate in order to print acetate or similar instead of making custom gobos each time.

Eg Selecon Pacific, Source Four LED etc.

Rosco also do the iPro Image Projector (or ImagePro) that allows you print your own slides on their film to go in the Iris slot of several 'normal' profile spots.

You really do want a better profile spot anyway, gobo projection was never the Prelude's strong point!

The runners for the gobo holder are on the gate where the shutters are. The top of the prelude has sliding access panels. Slide the panel away from shutters and you should see the runners on the gate. I'm fairly sure the gobo runners are also used for the iris. I'd be inclined to make sure the gobo doesn't use the whole of the available area - stick to the middle. As Tomo says, preludes aren't the best projectors.

For a really cool gate some of the LED profiles are excellent, we're currently using cardboard gobos (laser cut), but you could use a scalpel, with our ETC Lustre2s peak gate temperature has been under 70 celcius.
