chrisprescott
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has had any experience using this lantern? How does it weigh up against a 10 degree S4? I am struggling to find a hire company that has 7 of them (which is the qty I need)if anyone knows of anyone? Thanks in advance!
TomHoward
It might be worth a call to Ian & Richard at Viking Stage Lighting, they hold a fair amount of Selecon Pacific. We have the 12-28 zoom Pacifics among others but haven't experience of the 5.5-13 zoom. Looking in the catalogue they don't have Selecon 5.5 listed but they do have S4 5deg. gareth
We have half a dozen of the Pacific 5/15s on our rear auditorium bar, and they're pretty good fixtures. Bright (we have the 1000w 'blue pinch' lamps in ours), and nice optics - but they're physically rather large and cumbersome. We also have a few S4 10-degree units, and the differences are pretty much what you'd expect - the S4s are smaller and lighter (fewer lenses, and they're polycarb rather than glass), therefore easier to move around as 'mobile' units (hence the Selecons staying in place on the back bar), the Selecons are zoom units and therefore inherently that little bit more flexible, but in terms of brightness and the quality of the optics there's really not a lot in it. vinntec
I did a show recently with 6 x Pacific 5.5/13 with 1kW lamps on a back FOH bar with a throw distance of about 18m. They did the job intended which was face lighting extreme DS so towards the large side and softly focused. They are very long and cumbersome and focusing them was a real challenge as you needed very long arms to reach under the lens tube. Moving them was also interesting - even along the bar so they pointed straight ahead as this venue had lots of obstructions to make life more difficult! The 5.5 comes into its own when running with the 80V lamp. The output is incredible.
