emsgeorge
Lovely gig, but I feel sorry for the boys doing the LED screens. Half of one side failed before the start, and now theres almost random panels out all over the place, on both stacks.
Stuart91
If the weather there has been anything like it has on this side of the country, I imagine everything will have had a good soaking. Plus it is quite an exposed location so rain may well have been driven into places that it wasn't expected to reach.
djw1981
at 7pm in edinburgh cloud base was about 6 storeys, full on fog and mist with 100yd visibility on bypass, and torrential rain causing localised flooding!
bigclive
It's worse. The whole stage was surrounded by a videowall arch and they had to abort desperate attempts to get the top section back with a cherrypicker because the public was about to come in. bigclive
I should add that the Haar (Edinburgh sea fog) came in early and persisted all day. Not really much rain, but every surface was dripping with water. Even well covered ones. It permeated EVERYTHING.
twjlighting
It did fully work before the rain My link
bigclive
It sure did, and the graphics were really nice too. Such a shame that it succumbed to the curse of the Haar.
Stuart91
I made a point of going on iPlayer for a look at the gig, purely because this thread sparked my interest. I thought some of the material on the side columns was quite creatively done - would have been interesting to see the full set in operation. So did the "crossbar" get a soaking and need to come down for mending?
bigclive
The top section was hung above the roof of the covered stage in a rather inaccessible place that required climbing to reach. From the first downpour to the subsequent drenching fogs the guys were up fixing it every day. The screen panels weren't really designed to withstand Scottish weather. For the Tom Jones gig the day after, they reconfigured the panels as an indoor screen and once they had found enough working panels it was rock solid.
